We eventually get Avon's at £65 each - continentals were £100 each and mileage is not an issue
The car only does around 4000 miles per year - so the tyres perish before running out noof tread.

Quick look on blackcircles you can get Toyo Proxes for £60 that seems a decent mid range option

I used Toyos for a while, but I kept getting sidewall bulges. I never had that issue with any other tyre brand.

I used Toyo's back in the 80's on a Capri 3000 and found the same bulging tyre walls
I put it down to too soft rubber at the time

don't worry if the tire brands offer winter or summer tires. if you are not living in any harsh climate you can opt for all-season tires just like your Continentals.
Default UK tyres are not all-seasons. Default UK tyres are summer tyres.

Anyway, what's with the thread necromancy? Sep 18, then Twuncle resurrects it at the start of Sep this year, then you now?

Well - obviously Twuncle took a year to decide.

Anyway - isn't about time we started started warming up to the annual argument about winter tires versus 4x4 versus knowing what you are doing? There was a thin skim of frost on my car this morning (in suburban South London) and the original Michelin Pilots probably need to be replaced before anything more substantial arrives.
I need to think of something new here...
