Not sure if this might be a similar situation but after we came back from our holiday this year, there was a huge crack on the back of the house that can also be seen on the inside. This was not there before we left, we were gone for 3 weeks. We have been told it's due to the hot dry summer and the numerous trees nearby. Thankfully, in this case, we rent but if the crack wasn't there before and appeared within 3 weeks.0

Just an update to the above - the issue is now closed as the Solicitor has come back and mentioned not to take it further. Thanks for all your help and comments.
