scary world of house buying

You may not be thinking hard enough.
Peruse sheds of similar size and condition on eBay. Then decide if you actually need those friends to do something you could easily do yourself and make a profit.
Listen to Dave OP, Dave is wise! This is exactly what I did when I got my first place. It had a small, very basic summer house in the garden which I had no use for and wanted to get rid of. It was structurally sound but seriously weatherworn. I put it on eBay and wrote a slightly romantic description, 7 days later a lovely young couple turned up and paid me £350 to dismantle and take my dilapidated summerhouse away.0 -
Thanks, I definitely wont be dismantling it myself but if someone else wants to buy it im sure I can find someone to dismantle it for collection – if I buy the house0

Oh I didn't either, the buyers did. I was very explicit in the auction description that my only contribution to the removal process would be the handing out of tea and biscuits.0 -
If purchasing a secondhand shed or greenhouse, (and especially the greenhouse) it's important to do the dismantling oneself so the bits that go together can be labelled appropriately.
When young, I bought quite a small aluminium greenhouse, but didn't do the above. Making it into a greenhouse again was much harder than I imagined!0 -
So I live in a small town, I expected that I would get caught viewing houses, gossiped about but I have discovered that the owner of one of the houses has been asking one of my bosses what kind of buyer I was, how I have been to see the house twice (I haven’t) and was I serious about buying. My boss apparently said well a good one as she’s a first time buyer she’s not tied in… he hasn’t told me he told another manager who fed back to me. I should imagine a few other people will now know. I specifically said to the EA I wanted to keep my viewings private and not tell people. Do I have a right to be annoyed?0

I'm thinking that it's useful for people to know if one is looking for a house personally. That will lead to mixed comments about telling you about a house they know for sale - but basically works out positive.
When I came here initially - I told "everyone and their dog" that I was wondering about houses for sale. The result was I got told about a couple I might like to consider. I also had someone look me up and down and tell me 2 whole areas to avoid (as there is often "trouble" there) and 1 whole area I might like to consider. From experience since - those 2 areas do have problems and the area they thought would be suitable for me is a "nice; one)" that never has any problems I'm aware of. I took it as helpful and a compliment to decide "bad areas" wouldnt do for me and "nice areas" were obviously "mine":D (albeit, as a single person, I couldnt afford them on my own:().0 -
Anyone has a right to their emotions, but coming from a small village myself, I think it's unrealistic to think that the grapevine will somehow not function normally in relation to house buying/moves. It's one of the most talked-about things and spreading the word rarely works to people's disadvatange.
We sold our first house and bought the second one via the bush telegraph. No agent fees!0 -
I think its more that the owner went to my boss, basically the ones that give me money to see if I was a serious buyer i.e. does she have the money, I think that’s a bit rude? The EA would have told him I was a first time buyer with a mortgage in principle?
One of his neighbours saw me so I expected it might get about but to go to my boss has put my hackles up so to speak.
When they pester me for feedback I might mention it then if I haven’t calmed down about it by then. If I was new to the area I would def ask about and make it known but I just don’t think its anyone’s business at the moment, to be honest I know which areas to avoid and even which ends of which streets for annoying neighbours. I more wanted to keep it quiet as I rent off a very difficult woman at the moment who is refusing to upgrade the house I’m in because they don’t have the budget – pretty sure she text me this whilst she was sipping a cocktail poolside on her fourth holiday this year. lol. I don’t want her to find out as if I end up spending another winter in this house I want the upgrades to take place, if she thinks im going she might not bother, the dilemmas. :money:0 -
back to square one and the house hunt continues......Decided that the house needed to much work doing to it, even if I went in at a low offer and it was accepted its a lot of work – sad times0
