Separate shower or shower over bath?

Interesting post this re shower/bath or shower only. I'm was dithering over this conflict. But in the last fortnight have had the opportunity to stay in hotels & a self catering house. Hotel 1 had a walk in shower quite large estimate 1.2m x 0.9m. Loads of room and from my point of view safe to use. Hotel 2 had a shower over bath. so had to climb in, it had the glass screen. Climbing in just felt dangerous as there wasn't much to hang on to. Back to Hotel 1 for a 3rd night and a different room and felt quite disappointed that it was shower over bath. More risk taking. The self catering house was shower over bath and again risk taking. There was a shower cubicle in the master bedroom ensuite but the electric shower packed in on the 2nd morning.
So now when I finally get around to getting my bathroom sorted its going to be a walk in shower.0 -
Just had this dilemma with my new bathroom.
I went for shower over bath with a P shaped bath (can't comment on what its like as it not been fitted yet)
Reasons were cost, and I didn't think I would make that much difference especially with the wider bottom standing with the P shaped bath.
My only concern is if the shower water will splash over the sides/end of the bath, as the shower enclosure only cover's the top of the p shape part.0 -
That's true enough. My point earlier was that even if you don't NOW have mobility issues, they can come on quite suddenly, even if they're only temporary.
Turning the bathroom into a wet room can be off-putting to some though, and may not be a great selling point.
We are just about to re do ours and we considered a wet room option but decided against it. Last week we rented a cottage which had a wet room. I hated it, water got into all the floor area which meant that if you were second to use the bathroom you were paddling to the sink and when sitting on the loo it wasn't at all comfortable to have your feet in a pool of water.
The shower wasn't blocked but the drainage seemed to be very poor and it was worse if you were in longer, to wash your hair for example. I know we made the right decision now.
We have gone for a freestanding bath with no shower over, but with a shower handheld tap attachment. We have a separate shower room.0 -
I love my walk in shower but I wouldn’t sacrifice a bath for it. Fortunately we have an en suite with a double size walk in shower and a separate family bathroom with a bath with shower over.
We have just bought a house with 4 shower rooms and no bath, and the first thing we’re doing is putting in a bath in our master en suite. It didn’t put us off the house, but with a small child there’s no way I’d want to be without one permanently.0 -
....The bath also gives room to step out from under the spray whilst you're putting soap on.
I either turn the tap off or redirect the spray when soaping myself in a shower cubicle.
I dislike hotel bathrooms with over bath showers, especially those with plastic curtains as the curtain invariably tries to wrap itself around my body.0 -
At the moment, we have an odd get up left by previous owners.
In the 2.8 x 2.5m space is a 1.2m x 1.2m room with a loo. Never used by us. In the main bath area is a "jazuzzi bath" with a shower over it, bidget, loo and sink and lots and lots of cupboards. It is quite a leg raise to get in and out of the bath for a shower.
We want to open it all up. Hubby just measured and he reckons 1200x800 would be the biggest we can sensibly squeeze in.0
