Separate shower or shower over bath?

  • Shower over the bath. I don't see what a separate shower enclosure offers that a bath doesn't.

They are much easier for people with mobility issues.

I'd much rather have a separate shower, but a 800x800 shower is as much use as a chocolate teapot. If that's all you can fit & you must have both, then go for a shower over the bath. Don't forget to use a bath with a flat bottom.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
  • Shower over the bath. A bath and a separate shower cubicle means it's just more to clean :)

If it's a family type house do not get rid of the bath.

Ok my issue is not being able to step over high sided bath so much as I would love a bath, shower is the only option.

You can get P-shaped baths if you want more space in the standing area.

One day your mobility may be less and climbing over the side of the bath to get in to have a shower may be more challenging.

How big will the bath be? I've just returned my bathroom to just a bath (1800x800mm) with a shower over it. Previously it had a small bath (1400x600) and a separate shower, the small bath was useless in my opinion. I agree with others that if it comes to selling a bath may be expected. At 2.5x2.5 m you may fit it all in though depending on the door and where pipes need to go, a bifold or sliding door could help. My bathroom is only 1.8x2.3m, with the door slighlty off centre on a long wall.

  • For what its worth. I have a tiny bathroom and it was either a shower or bath (with shower). I opted for a shower and to be honest i really miss the bath. I have always tended to take quick showers but i would love to languish in a lovely warm bath sometimes.

I wouldnt now go for just a shower and if i couldnt fit in both a separate bath and shower I would defo have a bath with a shower over it....

i am sure that didnt help you at all. Hope you love what you decide to go ahead with.

That's a fair point, but for people with mobility issues I'd suggest making the whole room a wetroom. Some shower cubicles are awkward to get into for anyone.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.

... not only more challenging, but sometimes impossible :(

If you put a shower in, make sure that the drainage pipe has a good sloping drop, rather than nearly flat and the water in the pipe drains, rather than pools.
