Am I responsible for this debt?

Why are they asking you for details about the estate being insolvent?
You are not the administrator and do not intend to be,; your father's estate is none of your business. Don't make it your business.
Put all correspondence in the bin and DO NOTHING .It's that simple.0 -
Agreed,do not go back to them with details as that's getting involved. Just tell them you are not the executor amd to stop contacting you. Did you send the letter I suggested ?0

Not yet, as I was expecting the settlement figure first.0 -

kiyamr, the settlement is literally nothing to do with you, its irrelevant.
Send the letter and ignore further correspondence.
By discussing the figure with them (and certainly do not refer to it in any letter) you are giving them an indication you may be willing to pay something.
On the same subject , don't give them any details of the estate, again that is not your responsibility and by discussing the matter with them, again you give them an indication you may be willing to pay.
They need to contact the executor of your fathers estate, and as there isnt one, thats where it ends for them (and you).0 -
Thank you for all the replies.
It's been a bit hectic here, dealing with this or in some cases not dealing with it.
So this is what I am thinking of sending to Ikano.
I am the only surviving child of the above named deceased and enclose a copy of the death certificate for registration.
Mr xxxxxx died intestate with no assets and less than £200 in his bank account which has now been closed.
I could put something about them collecting the bed and chair?
Kind Regards
Hopefully that will be the end of it.0 -

Mr xxxxxx died intestate with a nil estate and I will not be administrating it.
Please collect the bed and chair within the next 14 days. After that period I will dispose of them
Kind Regards
Hopefully that will be the end of it.
I suggest a couple of changes there. Copy it in to Willowbrook0 -
Thank you, I will amend it.0

Is this a letter or email?
If letter, take it to the post office and ask for proof of posting and keep that in a safe place. Don't waste your money on signed for as they may refuse to accept the letter. Proof of posting is good enough as it is considered as delivered a couple of days after and it's free!0 -
