If I cancel Virgin Media DD what will happen?

As the title really.

I, amongst so many other people it seems cannot get through to Virgin Media to cancel my services.

Despite several calls over the last few weeks I either get cut off at the 20 minute mark or it just keeps me on hold.
I have also aired my grievance over social media with them but you get the same old message that you have to call them!!

If I cancelled the direct debit with them what would be the consequences does anyone know please?
I'm assuming they are most likely to contact me to chase payment

Thanks

Virgin Media reports your account conduct with the credit reference agencies and they would happily put a late payment or even default marker on your credit report. It does seem that cancelling a direct debit is the best idea but trust me it brings consequences. It can make getting credit more difficult in the future.
I know it is painfull but keep trying. Maybee on quieter times of the day or weekends. You can also try sending them a letter to their registered office.
    Good luck
  • Urgh so terribly frustrating.

I'm not entirely sure when they are quieter to be honest, I've tried on varying days, at varying times.

The registered letter may be the way forward. Ten minutes to write up and print at most, then a quick trip to the post office a minute up the road. Much less time consuming than adding more hours to my life on hold whilst listening to the songs they play on repeat.

    Thanks

You won't know whether your cancellation has been received and actioned. Registered Mail is frequently delivered to the intended address, but never reaches the intended recipient. Just as easy (and far cheaper) to just cancel via E-Mail.

Bite the bullet and make some time to hang around on hold is my advice. Under no circumstances cancel your Direct Debit until you are out of an acknowledged thirty day cancellation period.

Preferably wait until you have received and paid your final bill, many people fall foul of that last bill.

I also can't get through and looking online in the user hub thingy it looks like a common problem. Some forum users are suggesting the only way to contact them is to write to :
    Virgin Media Sales Operation Support
    Unit 5 Nimbus Park
    Porz Avenue
    Houghton Regis
    Dunstable
    LU5 5FR

EDIT : I'm currently holding on the line 'again' this time they say the wait is only 30 minutes, so I will wait and see if they put me through to a rep.

EDIT, finally got through after about 40 mins, but it looks like my bills are going up considerably so I'll have to think about what I'm going to do. The problem is that I don't understand a lot of the jargon, apparently I use around 114 gb a month and they have said I can reduce my costs by dropping from 100mg to 50mg and I won't notice any difference, but I have no idea what they mean.

114GB is the average amount you've downloaded per month (that's a lot by the way although everything on Virgin is done through the BB)

It's 100Mbps & 50Mbps which is the speed of the connection, so you'd be downloading at a slower speed which given your usage I'd think you WOULD notice.

And don't forget that you also need to return the equipment when you cancel, unless it's old and they advise otherwise. It's not yours, unlike Sky, it is leased to you.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Frankly they can have it back, I would have no need for it and it's always been temperamental. However I've loath to leave Virgin as I've been with them from the start and reading the forums it looks like there can be issues retaining a virgin.net email account. I'm probably going to try them again tomorrow and see what they say then.

Anyway apologies for hijacking this thread, I really just wanted to let the OP know that if you wait you can eventually get through to speak to someone.

Just to remind you that Sky Q equipment is also leased...

I would seriously start migrating all of your email to a Gmail, Yahoo or Hotmail free account now, they won't be able to hold it over your head in the future.
