Speeding fine charge

Hello
I'm new here but I wasn't sure where to post this. It's stressing me out so much so I thought I'd see if anyone could helo.

Basically my husband got caught speeding on Saturday. I know it's bad and he shouldn't have been speeding but basically going 91 in a 70 area was pulled by a traffic cop. I googled it and looks as though he might be fined over £600 plus looking on confused.com
I think this is a new law? As it used to be around £100. I'm so stressed about it. We are 1 parent working family I'm currently off wirh my son and if it is that much every last bit of our savings will be gone.
I'm prepared to get some part time work in a pub or something but obviously i don't have anything just yet.

I'm so stressed about it I can't sleep properly I keep crying. To know I have no kitty to fall back on makes me feel sick, we live to a small amount each month as it is.

Does anyone know anyone that's had one of these new speeding fines and if so are they seriously a certain percentage of the wage etc etc?

I hope someone can help, I've asked around friends but no one has heard of this new system and not been caught on it.

Many thanks

There is no "new law", just a change in the sentencing guidelines, however they only apply if a case is heard at court.

The speed alleged qualifies for a fixed penalty notice (FPN = 3 points & £100 fine) so unless your husband wants to contest the charge (i.e. plead not guilty) or he already has 9 points it won't go to court and he should get offered an FPN.

Also fine's are still linked to salary so a £600 would be unlikely

I believe that TonyMMM is correct, but you can ask the mods to move this to the Motoring section, rather than relationships and family, as you'll get more replies there.

If he goes to court then the court can look at his income and outgoings in considering the amount of any fine.

  • Thanks to you both. Fingers crossed then.

How do I ask mods to move it?
    Thanks

It's his fine not yours - he was speeding, why would you get the part time job?

He is the one who needs to be working out how to pay a fine that he got, in his name, personally, by his own actions.

I suggest you start showing him part time adverts....

I suggest you take this over to our friends on pepipoo.com as they are the council and police motoring experts, whereas we specialise in private parking tickets here on MSE.

You will need to register on pepipoo with a non-Hotmail email account before reading the FAQs ad posting your query there.

This isn't the motoring forum and it's also a necro of a thread from back in August.

My crystal ball says it's possibly all over by now especially as the op hasn't been back since September.
