I know this thread is about getting your money back from Ideal World, but if you just want a phone that works:
Assuming your SIM isn't one of the 'trio' ones that can have the micro and nano sized sections pushed out of the full size SIM, it is usually possible to trim down a micro SIM to nano size. The chip is the same, there's just less padding.
It's not something I'd recommend doing at home with a pair of scissors (although I have done that successfully in the past) but the stall on your local market that sells phone cases and unlocking/repair services almost certainly has the proper trimming tool to cut it down to the correct size.
The one nearest me charges just £1, although they'll waive it if you buy something else at the same time.
Also, if you keep the ring of trimmed plastic, you can slip the 'nano' section back in in the event you need to (carefully!) stick it back in your old phone
It's still not ideal, because a proper nano SIM is also a fraction of a millimetre thinner, which can make a trimmed down micro SIM a tight fit, but I've never known one to not fit at all, you just have to be gentle.3.6 kW PV in the Midlands - 9x Sharp 400W black panels - 6x facing SE and 3x facing SW, Solaredge Optimisers and Inverter. 400W Derril Water (one day). If they said on the channel it takes micro SIM then the goods don't conform to contract.
The question of whether it was reasonable of OP to trust what was said on the tv and put the micro sim in is another matter entirely that may possibly give them a counterclaim for negligence but it does not allow them to remove OP's statutory rights.
OP, write them a letter before action outlining the above and see if that nets you a better result. It certainly can't hurt. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
I suspect the OP has to prove what had been said on TV though. I suspect, in the eyes of a court a reasonable person would have obtained the manual or quick-start guide rather than rely on remembered (or possibly mis-remembered) instructions.
OP, people disagreeing with you does not constitute bullying.0 -

You think your average person would seek a manual (much less a manual they may not even be aware exists) and read it when they don't even read brief T&C's? I'm not as sure on that front (although I allowed for the possibility just to cover my bases). You keep using that word. They didn't need to seek out a manual. The quick start guide which the OP mentioned came with the phone shows how to insert the sim:

A micro sim would clearly not fit in the tray as displayed.
OP, your local phone repair shop has probably seen this kind of thing before, and those trays are a common feature. They can probably fish out the sim and cut it down to nano size unless you've really rammed it home.
You've only wasted £90 if you broke the thing.0 -

OP appears to have had no difficulty in inserting the sim. Does the guide make it clear that only a nano can be used?
Also, the "link" you've posted isn't actually a link for anyone but you - its the physical location of the file in your hard drive, not a link for other people to view/download.You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
Even if the info stated by the presenter on the day was incorrect surely when the "tray" was looked at it would be clear that any larger size sim card would not go into the correct slot and you would not need any guide supplied to see that.
I admit I am not the most tech savvy person but even I look carefully at things before putting them together and although not able to know the OP wonder if a less hasty attempt to get the new phone up and running may have over written the idea of one step at a time.0 -

It doesn't specifically say you can't use a micro sim, but only a nano sim could fit in the tray as illustrated.0 -
Thought I would come back, so there is an end -
