We are quite remote no bars or other restaurants nearby to try to connect to
Connect to a mobile phone with hotspot to test
Thats what I do when in hotels, to check if fault is my end!

Just have to keep pinching my sons fire tablet to check my emails
you shouldn't need hotel wifi to do these connections, there is something wrong with the tablet wifi, thats my guess.0 -

Whilst you may have done this as per the instruction, you haven't said so explicitly ... so I'll reiterate the earlier post:
Have you tried Turning OFF the WiFi and rebooting (then turning WiFi back on)?0 -

I tried all of that.
I am now home. The tablet is working fine with my home broadband.
It wouldnt work in airport either.
So my questions are will it be ok now or will it play up again with other similar connections.
My watch and camera are sync with the tablet too.
Its been very frustrating but it couldnt be helped. Just dont want it to happen again0 -
I get this all the time with "free wi fi" even in this country, hit and miss, or the signal meter has a ! next to it, and even when it shows connected nothing downloads!0

Public WiFi hot-spot systems are usually more 'fragile' than 'normal' WiFi. This is because of several reasons.
Devices generally get their IP address from a server, however there is only a specified amount of addresses that the server (DHCP) can give. After it runs out, even if you manage to connect to the WiFi (i.e. the password is correct), your device won't get an IP address and won't therefore connect to the network. This can happen if the place is more crowded than usual (normally each IP address is 'given' for a certain length of time before it becomes available again) or if the system has not been optimised (for example reserving addresses for 2 days, while people normally spend 2 hours on site).
Sometimes you do get your IP address, but the logon page doesn't come up (that's when you normally get the 'connected' icon with the exclamation mark, on Android devices).
Back to OP, if your tablet only connects at home, depending on what the error is, you could check whether it has been set up with a static IP address that is only valid in your home network.0 -
Free wifi access points often require you to run a script or go through some registration process. Until you do that, you will appear "connected" to the wifi, but all traffic is blocked.
Opening a web browser and trying to access an internet web page will usually run the script and/or trigger the registration process. For example, on train services I've used, you are asked to enter an email address before you're allowed internet access.
Also, free wifi points often block most internet traffic, only allowing web and email.0 -

.
This is exactly what was happening, it worked fine first day then day 2 and for rest of holiday this happened.
My husbands phone, sons fire tablet were all fine and had no trouble at all.
I tried opening the browser, forgetting the connection. Resetting all connections. Turning on and off. Nothing worked. But it is ok now but i will be wary when i use public wifi in future0 -

Here in London, every time I'm at St Pancras station, if I see too many people on the platform I already know that I will struggle to get a connection. On off-peak hours, it connects in seconds.0
