Sorry to hear about little jwil. Hope he’s feeling better.

Yes re climate change. We all need to do more. All of us - thanks for the reminder, post any more top tips you have. I agree re reducing consumption and eating less meat...they are two that I should really focus on. Reduce rather than recycle, that should be my mantra

    Xxx

Thanks Brizzle, little jwil's ankle seems fine today thankfully :)

Yes, the consumption and meat are the biggies here I think. How to convince DH mainly.

I think I worded some of my earlier posts a bit badly.

I think what I meant to say is that our first priority should be reducing the use of things like plastic and palm oil, through reducing consumption. That has to be our first priority.

We can't go ahead and live the same way by substituting plastic and palm oil for other things which will have unintended consequences and could be worse for the environment or just shift the problem elsewhere.

For things we do need to buy, we need to shout at manufacturers where things are overpackaged and look for alternatives where possible. But we also need to accept that for a few things, there is a real need for packaging and develop new genuinely sustainable packaging choices. So plastic is not a suitable long-term choice for packaging, but in some cases, at the moment, it's the best we've got and the alternatives are worse for the environment.

The same with Palm oil, we should look for products that don't use palm oil OR an alternative that is not sustainable. Whichever oil they use it needs to be sustainable.

The new extended producer responsibility legislation coming in will help increase sustainable design as manufacturers will have to pay more for non-recyclable or unsustainable packaging.

I hope I didn't give the impression that I am in favour of plastics or that we should use palm oil and sod the consequences, as that wasn't my intention!

You have reminded me that a package-free zero store has opened. I assumed it would be pricey but I am going to go there next week to check it out.

Don't be ashamed, at least your recycling bin is full too! If you had a full rubbish bin and an empty recycling bin I might tut a little bit :D

Thank you :) They can be a bit pricey, but I think it is great when you want an ingredient that you don't use very often and can go in and buy the amount you need rather than being left with a load of stuff you barely use (says me with a cupboard full of herbs and spices that have barely been used!)

Thank you jwil. I do feel like I'm shouting in the wind so your words have helped. I just get so angry thinking that the whole country could be good and reduce, reuse etc and it would be wiped out by one factory in China. But I cant change that.
Any tips on compost bins? I'm quite keen to do one but when they're too green they don't work. How do you balance it out?

Great work on the stuff shifting. That's so many listings and a great attitude to calling a time to recycle it. I always find it easier that way. And for some irritating reason it sells. At this point everything that goes out of your house makes a difference.

Hope you're enjoying all the lovely sunshine xxx

Thank you lovely :) It's definitely not easy :(

Compost bins - if you balance the greens with browns then you should be ok. Shredded paper and cardboard are good for this. Just make sure its all broken into small pieces so it breaks down well.

I often find that as soon as I decide something is going it sells :T

Hope everyone has had a lovely Easter :)

We've had a busy one. DH did a car boot on Saturday, and I've done one this morning. We've cleared some more stuff :T

Yesterday we had a look around the car boot in the morning and then in the afternoon went to Tarr Steps. Love it there, and it was great having a paddle. I love Exmoor.

As I was selling at the car boot this morning, I decided to bring in all the books and DVDs etc and have a good sort through everything. I've been checking it all on Music Magpie, Ziffit and We Buy books, so I've got a boxful to go to each once I'm finished. Want to try and finish tonight as there are codes for extra money :T

I've been off plan all weekend, so not expecting good results this week. I'll be back on track tomorrow so will hopefully minimise the damage.

Hope everyone has had a good weekend :)
