but the restore has to be from their backup.
If you used the Samsung Smart Switch Mobile app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sec.android.easyMover
it's possible as long as you can install it on the new phone. On my account it'll allow install to an old Samsung & a Sony Z5 Compact but not to my current Vodafone SU6.
Thanks Colin, I think it's too late, unfortunately. I backed up to my Google account for Calendar and Contacts and saved to Samsung Backup.
However, I bought an iPad a while ago and used a Move To iOS app which has ported all my texts along with contacts and calendar. I wonder if I can get them off iOS and into Android on any phone?

But attention please, unlike media files like photos, videos, etc., contacts and messages are always stored in the phone's internal flash card, and it is can't be taken out and used in other device just like the SD card does. Thus, when your phone is broken without backup, and you can't find an effective way to extract or restore the saved data on the device, then you may lose them permanently.
Broken Android Data Recovery software could extract data like contacts, SMS, call logs, photos, music, WhatsApp, videos, etc. from damaged Samsung phone internal and SD card.0 -
