Is Aqua Credit Card as Good/Bad as people make it out to be?

Hi,

Just wondering what the opinion of the experts is. The overall internet of things tend to be unable to decide on the overall experience of being an Aqua Card holder. Some say "its fantastic for what it has been designed for" and others say that its absolutely awful, that customer service is terrible etc etc.

Please could someone inform me that the latter is likely to be people that don't comply with the card's T&Cs and in fact the card works wonders as long as you stick to the rules.

Looking forward to your answers!

    It's fine.

As a sub prime card, it attracts the high risk and those new to credit, who tend to make more mistakes than the average cardholder, hence the greater complaints.

Their customer service has also improved a lot over the last 3 years.

It's certainly not the greatest card on the planet but that's not its intention. It does what it sets out to do.

Subprime cards will have a higher amount of people who struggle to make repayments, which is reflected in the higher APR. Many credit cards will be the same if you cannot pay

    I have one

I haven't had credit in my own name for years, always on a joint card and I have had problems with cards in the past so for me its been a positive experience

I love that they keep you informed all the time regarding your expenditure, statement date and payment date, there are no shocks. Between statement date and payment date I just stop using it. I have only got it to build my own credit history, so I stick petrol and groceries on it and pay off in full every month

I have had to ring customer services once and they could not have been more polite and helpful

Sounds fantastic. Very much my own story to tell as well, so I am pleased to find myself in a similar position to others. Glad to hear that you have not had any issues.

On another note, what is your strategy for repayments? Instant transfer or you pay it off by the repayment date?

    Direct debit set up

As I say Ive only taken it to build my own credit history when Im on a ZHC on minimum pay. So I only spend what I can afford, and thats the groceries and petrol

I have just made a larger purchase but payment isn't due for 6 weeks so I will have the money in my account to pay in full when the bill arrives

Im also happy that I have only a small credit allowance. In the. past I had cards coming out of my ears with really quite high allowances. I got into the bad habit of maxing out a card, applying for another, maxing that out, paying minimum and ended up in a right pickle , somewhere I don't want to go back too

And Im looking forward to my cash back reward as well :)

I tried it, I paid it off. I had a 0% transfer for a few months, which was fine, they didn't get it right though and I had to call them after my first statement to remind them. They increased the credit limit after 6 months, which was fine, a few months later they whacked up the APR by 5% which wasn't ideal. I'd never gone over my limit, always paid far more than the minimum balance, never paid late. I just cleared it and I haven't used it since. If I were you I'd just keep a close eye on the statements.
  • I have had a very good experience. I've had an Aqua Advance card for over seven years now. Never any problems. I've had a £6,400 limit for the last two years and pay off the card in full each month. Interestingly, although the APR dropped to 19.9% APR after three years, it has gradually edged it's way back up to 24.9% APR!!

    I love my job

yup - same here - never any issues with them - when going abroad - no need to call either - just a little message in the online account section and you good to go!
My APR did the exact same thing - thought it was because I only use it when abroad ?

No. It's part of a wider repricing strategy across all the portfolio.

I agree only concern is interest accumulates rapid over time.
