Another drawback of requiring a one time pass code being sent to a mobile, makes it difficult/expensive when abroad.

What they have saddled us with has not been worth the wait, it certainly doesn't uphold their confidence account holders would be getting better control, facilities or service.
If I were you, I should instantly withdraw all my money, close my Beehive account and vow to never return. Do it before your condition improves.:p

I have made the transition with no difficulty and no change of account number.

No one needs to have an "excuse" for not having a mobile phone, basic or not.

    They're not compulsory. :)

They seem to be for this! Hence all the warnings!

My excuse for not having a smartphone is that the government hasn't given me one yet. Them Tory scum, eh?
Free the dunston one next time too.

You seem very keen to be right considering you are responding to a posting I made four months ago. ;)

However, mobile phones are still not compulsory, nor is having an account with Beehive Money compulsory either.

And four months on, people still don't need to have an "excuse" for not having a mobile. :)

i dare say i have this wrong, at least i hope so, but i vaguely remember reading something, somewhere, that these wretched OTP things will be mandatory soon for online transactions?
(hopefully someone who knows can set me straight on this as i now cannot find the article i read about this)

    You are not wrong
Part of the EU wide PSD2 (payment services directive No 2)
Mandatory implementation date in early 2019 as I recall.
Quite how each financial group will implement the 2FA requirements in each of it payment channels remains to be seen - probably all differently!

Texts to Europe should arrive free of charge Buffman, certainly have the ones I have received. For 1p per minute calls on your mobile, which is exactly the same cost even when using it in europe to UK numbers or mobile, I can't understand why more people don't use the pay as you go SIM from 1pmobile. You have to top up £10 amount 3 times a year but this works out way less than lots of monthly contract ones out there and for low phone use people like we are it is ideal.

Surely the overriding reason for having a mobile phone is your personal safety, and nothing to do with Beehive. If you are out on your own and have a seizure/heart attack/stroke or you find your car stolen or was it milk or apples you were asked to pick up on the way home.

A simple phone is not expensive and giffgaff do £5 pm deals for what you would need for probable usage.

    Worth thinking about? :)
