Best printer on the market atm, by far is the Canon MP610.
http://www.canon.co.uk/For_Home/Product_Finder/Multifunctionals/Multifunctionals/PIXMA_MP610/index.asp
Buy it from here,
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/132440
It has 5 individual carts, 1 x 26ml black new @ £11.95, refill £6.50, 4 x 13ml colours new @ £9.95, refill £5.50.
There are also compatibles available on the likes of ebay, although in order for them to work they require you to remove and swap over the cartridge chip, which can be fiddly. We simply reset the chips (as can any other Cartridge World store)
To give you an idea:
Epson: They market their cartridges as 'cheap' however the reality is they hold very little ink (new models 7.4ml black, 5,5ml colours)
HP: Have released a lot of 'cheap to buy' PSC's (Printer Scanner Copiers) but again the cartridges contain little ink (5ml black, total of 5ml tri-colour)
Lexmark: Mainly aimed at Chavs. Poor build, poor software, poor print quality and without doubt the most ridiculous running costs of any printer known to man.
The above 3 makes also supply starter (or half full) cartridges with their printers, Canon give you a full set.
It is a total mindfield trying to buy an inkjet printer, with no industry standard on how many pages an inkjet cartridge will give you! Stick to a Canon and you won't go far wrong
there was a bloke trying to get us to buy that one. it wasnt until i looked at him later that i noticed the big red canon letters on his t shirt. however it did look very good and i agree it is worth getting if you can afford the price. we couldnt afford that price so as soon as i looked down and saw the price i lost interest.
regarding cartridge capacity you can get extra large sizes as well.0 -

Hi. I just have a quick question, the printer here for example
http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/store/cur_page.jsp?page=Product&sku=538222
Says connectivity USB 2.0, does that mean that it will not function on my USB 1.1 ports??Instigated terrorism the road to dictatorship.0 -
Anyone?? :money:Instigated terrorism the road to dictatorship.0

USB 2.0 is backward compatible so your printer will connect at 1.1 speeds, on a printer unless printing huge photos you will not notice the difference .
Have a look at your motherboard manual, it is quite possible that your board is USB 2.o compatible even though you only have 1.1 ports.
There may be a set of connection pins on you MB that you can connect a front bay fitting multi socket giving you 4 or more 2.0 ports , or buy a PCI USB 2.0 card , both cost less than £10.

I have a Brother MCF 820CW, all in one, it was on special offer at PC world a couple of months back for £70, I'm very impressed with it, as said above you can get cheap ink off eBay, all the colours are separate which is ideal if you have kids printing off pages from cbeebies all in one colour, it's wireless so it can go anywhere, the copy function is good as you don't need your computer turned on, it is not fantastic for photo printing, but as a bundle is ideal, there are lots of multi function printers out there now at good prices, it's always worth checking pc world web site as their collect at store stuff is often a lot cheaper than off the shelf, maybe free delivery too, but double check other online shops, some of their stuff is overpriced. Epson are good too, but their own ink cartridges are very expensive, but there is a small programme you can download that lets you freeze the ink levels so that you really do use all the ink, not just stop when the printer thinks (or told) it's empty. There are 10 types of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who don't...0
