All-in-1: Printer/Scanner/Photocopier

Hi everyone.

Finally it's necessary for me to buy a new printer. Does anyone have any advice and/or suggestions.

I want to get one of those all in one things that can be used as a printer, scanner and photocopier.

I'm looking for the cheapest price possible and also one that's not too big (like those crap lexmark things).

Am i better to go and buy on the high street or online? Are there any particular models or brands that i should avoid (like lexmarks for example).
Which are the models that i can get the best priced ink cartridges for etc.

Thanks in advance.

PC World are doing a Lexmark wireless all in one that does the above, faxes, and prints double sided.

Yours for £99. They are doing a more basic model for the same price but this one was on promotion. I don't think the price is bad for that spec.

Brother all in ones are excellent , Original carts are cheaper than most, copies are dirt cheap, carts are easy to refill .

DCP -117C is what I have, they may still be available around £50, do a Google search .

we just got a hewlett packard c5280 for £75. it is that price in comet and currys at the moment. we have only had it a few days but it seems fine. play.com seems to have the best prices for ink cartridges. one negative is it does not have a pictbridge connection. that doesnt really matter though coz it does have slots for the various memory cards and you can put whatever you want onto your pc and print from there as well. so not having pictbridge is very minor.

you will need to buy a usb cable if you dont already have one as one is not included. the ink cartridges it takes are hp 348, 350 and 351. a small 350 and 351 cartridge is included but 348 is the one that allows photo quality printing so you would need to buy one of those and as i said play.com seems to be the cheapest.

I can recommend HP all in ones too. I had a 2610, and have just bought a C5280.
Having problems installing them with Vista though, but if you have XP you should be fine.

Best printer on the market atm, by far is the Canon MP610.

    http://www.canon.co.uk/For_Home/Product_Finder/Multifunctionals/Multifunctionals/PIXMA_MP610/index.asp

    Buy it from here,

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/132440

    It has 5 individual carts, 1 x 26ml black new @ £11.95, refill £6.50, 4 x 13ml colours new @ £9.95, refill £5.50.

There are also compatibles available on the likes of ebay, although in order for them to work they require you to remove and swap over the cartridge chip, which can be fiddly. We simply reset the chips (as can any other Cartridge World store)

    To give you an idea:

Epson: They market their cartridges as 'cheap' however the reality is they hold very little ink (new models 7.4ml black, 5,5ml colours)

HP: Have released a lot of 'cheap to buy' PSC's (Printer Scanner Copiers) but again the cartridges contain little ink (5ml black, total of 5ml tri-colour)

Lexmark: Mainly aimed at Chavs. Poor build, poor software, poor print quality and without doubt the most ridiculous running costs of any printer known to man.

The above 3 makes also supply starter (or half full) cartridges with their printers, Canon give you a full set.

It is a total mindfield trying to buy an inkjet printer, with no industry standard on how many pages an inkjet cartridge will give you! Stick to a Canon and you won't go far wrong smile.gif
  • I have an Epson RX560 I just can not believe how could it is in all its functions.

we were also looking at that one which looks good except it said there was no software with it? this left me wondering how to get it to work with the pc without software. so i played safe and went for the hp.
