Double din Stereo with waze

Thanks again guys, I previously had a digital radio in last car, but hard dab Ariel that fits the windscreen was very good do you know if the dongle is better or much of a muchness.
I do get good reception - I don't use it that much, but it seems to be as good as on my Pioneer unit (and aerial) that I replaced. I noticed a bit of chopping though when Waze was starting up, so I would say that BT and DAB can chop a little with high CPU usage (yes, even on an Octa core!), and if course, Waze eats CPU. Very much settles down though when everything is up and running. One last question might be important for all of us, have you found anywhere showing how to upgrade from android 8.0 in the future, I feel someone has to find a way some how. I know through research no one has yet on past stereos ?
xda is the place. But as someone who has put custom ROMs on tablets and phones before, I might draw the line here. There's a good, but tiny community around Android car stereos, and there are some custom ROMs around, but that's only half the story. Another part of the build comes from the manufacturer (and that's NOT Pumpkin, Seicane etc!), which controls the 'car' part of the stereo - amp, BT chip, WiFi etc - and this is where support is very poor, across the manufacturers.
There are still 4.4 Stereos, tablets, phones around. Part of the reason I chose Oreo, whas that it would be 'current-ish' for a long time. I would strongly advise NOT planning to ever get an upgrade without a lot of research and risk.I didn't know about USB DAB receives before this thread, so thanks to almillar for the pointer. I have ordered one to try.
I don't think it'll be any use without drivers and software, and might be Android only. But if you ordered it from HK like me, you need to allow a few weeks anyway!I wonder with some trawling if I can find a suitable image to upgrade it. It has a few gremlins.
OK, you've got some experience with these units then. You will know the pitfalls, and I would certainly say that things have got better. Have a play with updating these before you go wrecking the nice new one!0 -
Hi not sure id your still there, ive set it all up and I cannot find anywhere about setting up the dab + antenna, I bought the pumpkin in the end,but the only USB port is at the front I just wondered can you plug into the back somehow , I have loads of cables and have run it ttrough the back of the glove box ?0

You need to use one of the cables you got. Its the cable labelled 3G/USB/Mic in the manual and has a white plug on one end, two USB sockets and a phono socket. Once you've got it connected then open up the DAB application on the head unit. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. ^ Yep, there should be at least one USB at the back, available via one of the umpten connectors at the back. Should be easy enough to identify. Share photos of the back of the stereo, and the mass of cables that came with it. Hopefully we'll find a USB one, DAB plugs into that, Aerial plugs into that.0

I did try this yesterday but didnt work I will try again, I really couldnt find anything online about it, does the mic part attach to something as since setting up Ive tried bluetooth calling and its not great, I assume its using the mic on the front ?0 -
I bought a USB DAB+ receiver, my head unit didn't have the DAB+ app, eventually found that online and installed it.
Antenna stuck to window in correct orientation, however signal on every station goes from full strength on the signal-meter to zero every few seconds when driving, making it un-usable!
Anyone else had this? I'm not sure if it's a bad antenna or receiver0 -

No, mine's good (link in this thread). I replaced a Pioneer head unit and DAB aerial with mine, and with non-extensive testing, it's on par, signal wise.
Do you KNOW that you have good reception otherwise? Do you have another USB port you could test? Do you have anything else connected to USB that might be interfering? 3g dongle especially.does the mic part attach to something as since setting up Ive tried bluetooth calling and its not great,
There's likely a mic at the front of the head unit, but there should also be a jack (headphone type socket) to plug an external mic into, which will give better results.Ive also found this now completely confused
'Manufacturers' do recommend 'their own' but they're often £50, compared to unbranded at around £20 - I took a chance and it worked.
And that thread seems to be about 'B' units - I'm pretty sure you just bought a 'D' unit.0 -

I tried this with both usb adaptors, please see pics
Do you not think its the digital app at all like I showed before?
