Heathrow passenger pick-up

So as I understand, you can drop off passengers at the departure spaces but if you wish to pick-up passengers then they say you must use the car park as you are not allowed to wait.

However, I need to pick up my family from Heathrow Terminal 2 and if they are waiting by the kerb side so literally just stop the car for them to jump in and put the bags in the car (i.e. no longer than dropping of passengers) then is this allowed?

I will not be waiting for any period of time longer than it would take to drop off passengers.

How will you know they are at the kerbside before you pull up,or will they say they will be there in a couple of minutes,
Where will you wait in the meantime?

Theoretically you're not supposed to pick up and could be fined. But I know people who've done it and been OK. Make sure you KNOW they are there waiting at the departures drop-off point before entering the tunnel.

my booked taxi was late to Terminal 2 recently so he asked me to meet him at the drop off point. It speeded things up but he knew I was ready and could be right there (not still waiting for luggage/queuing through customs).

I've had to drop off and pick up at Terminal 3 a number of times recently and have decided to suffer at least some of the cost by broadly conforming to Heathrow's requirements for pick-up. It is just a bit too risky for me to try to outwit the PCSO's tasked with enforcement (and there are a number of them on duty at any one time - they know all the ruses and will be keeping tabs on you if you try to keep rotating around Heathrow and returning to the drop off area to try to pick up. Both you and your intended pick up have to be very on the ball via mobile phone to minimise the risks of getting caught.

By all means rotate round the one way system (which takes a good five minutes each time) before you commit to entering the chargeable pick up area so that you do not go over 30 minutes and start incurring bigger cost. However, despite being game for all sorts of previous unofficial drop off/pick up ruses over the years at a number of airports (I still have one or two good ones up my sleeve for other airports), I for one am now deterred from being too blatant about it at Heathrow at Terminal 3, and although it's been a while since I've been to Terminal 2, I think Terminal 2 is even more difficult to try it than Terminal 3?

    What's wrong with the train?

Driving to Heathrow is a bad idea: period.

Did you know that you can park in the long stay car park for free for up to 2 hours?

They usually have a regular free bus shuttle running to take you to the airport and I find that a lot easier. I know T3 definitely have this but not used T2 much.

    Hope that helps!!

There's an app for making your car invisible while you wait around the corner?
That's amazing! What is it called?

Seems like they've really clamped down and picking people up is a bit of a gamble. I ended up just parking in short stay carpark in the end. Seems a bit of a con that I had to pay 30 minutes worth for what was barely 2 minutes of parking.
