I can see there is a thread on slow PCs - but it seems to be closed. Also there is reference on there to a guide, which I can't see.
Anyway, I have recently purchased a brand new Packard Bell imedia s3730 tower PC. It has Windows 10 installed.
Right from the beginning I've been having problems. Just basic tasks like using Word documents, browsing internet sites, looking at photos etc.
I really only wanted a basic PC for basic tasks that worked relatively quickly.
I know that computers slow down as they age - but this new PC is worse than my older laptops.
For example, when I try and view emails, the images are often just white squares with small red crosses in. When I try and scroll down a Word document, it freezes and I get a small blue circle spinning as my cursor.
At first it wouldn't even play Youtube videos - but recently it just started doing that ok.
It seems ok when I view the BBC News website. But when I try and view other websites, the (?hard drive) makes a whirring sound and the screen freezes. Would this be due to the fact that these websites are using too many adverts, which use up my PC processor speed?
Grateful for any advice. I'm pretty much an idiot when it comes to computers.
Michael.

Selling off the UK's gold reserves at USD 276 per ounce was a really good idea, which I will not citicise in any way.

take it back to the supplier, as it is under warranty and not fit for purpose. Is this the PC world one for £270? It is a lemon in more ways than one.
Possibly get a refund and buy one of these as the cpu is about three to four times faster, but does not have wifi? but is £71 less.

New consumer grade PCs come with a lot of junk pre-installed.
Try this program to remove a lot of it:
http://www.pcdecrapifier.com/
It's free, and might not speed the machine up much, but it's worth a try.0 -
Also, new PCs running Win 10 tend to spend the first few weeks simply updating, especially if you have a slow internet connection, which slows everything down.0

Bet this is what's happening. OP should leave it turned on overnight so it can get it all over with. For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.0 -
Yes it sounds as though it might be an internet connection problem rather than a PC problem your network is either very slow because thete is a fault in it or as others have said because it is downloading lots of updates being a new PC and this is taking up all the bandwidth0

I've recently bought another PC to replace my 10 year old Vista machine and after reading the threads on here I went for a Dell Optiplex reconditioned machine for £299 and its been outstanding, so much so I don't think I would ever buy a new machine again.0 -
I replaced my old PC with a Dell Optiplex too, it's an i7, SSD drive, 16GB RAM, very fast machine. Was £220 from a refurbisher on eBay.0

Amazing value, if I get ten years out of this I'll be well happy! I wonder what pc's will be like in 2027? My first in 2000 had 40gb, I've got usb flash drives with more oomph.0 -
My PC will be ten years old in November. It's still runs really quickly, with it's i7 CPU and 12GB RAM.
A pricey upgrade at £800 but I think it's worked out good value for money. :-)0
