I thought I would have a try at removing some 'bloatware' prior to trying to return the PC.
Firstly, it's quite hard to actually locate 'control panel' - you need to enter it in the small search term box.
It has quite a few 'apps' on there - for example 'Cortana' (a speaking woman that is useless). But when I right click and try to uninstall, the 'uninstall' box is 'greyed out' - so it looks like the computer will not allow me to uninstall this app. Same with 'x-box, 'films and tv' etc.
There is a box to click on that says: 'Terminate' this app and its related processes. That's not 'greyed out' - but clicking on it does nothing.
But if these things are built into the PC, is it worth looking for a PC without all this 'bloatware'?
Do you think it is possible to remove using the software tool linked to?Selling off the UK's gold reserves at USD 276 per ounce was a really good idea, which I will not citicise in any way.0 -
Regarding bloatware, the utility PCdecrapify does just that.
Windows 10 Home comes with a whole load of Microsoft junk, such as the hated Cortana. Don't think you can get rid of most of it, the updates will put it back. In the case of Cortana, it is easy to remove the icon but not the app itself.
PCdecrapify is written to remove demo versions of software, such as games, Microsoft Office, McAfee A/V, etc, that is bundled with most home PCs.
If the PC is still too slow to catch a cold, consider returning it. However, beware of the T & Cs and timescale to obtain a refund.
There are a few suppliers that offer PCs without junk, but they are not cheap. Novatech is one such supplier. Ex business refurbished PCs are another option and can offer good value.0 -
Don't laugh, they pay for them to be removed by green recyclers.
unbelievable. have to ask - public or private sector?"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0 -

Personally, I would leave everything exactly as it is and just leave the updates to install and see how it is after that.
If still no good, get rid.
If it is still struggling after the updates, it's not going to get any better over the months/years, but worse.0
