Supplementary question: If you have to report your savings interest to HMRC, do you tell them about the double dose?

And what will Virgin report to HMRC?

Ask them for a Section 975 certificate (you can request it online). That will show the figures they send to HMRC.
  • If you click on a closed accounts there's an option to "view interest and tax". They include double interest where applicable.

Letter received this morning (complete with spelling and grammatical errors and unsure which issue it is actually about so it can't really be from a bank can it ?) please send us £43.55.:o

Very amateur letter, would have thought it was a scam if I didn't know otherwise. It states "issue 18 was overpaid" then goes on to give a sort code and "your virgin money 8 digit account number" to repay into. My first instinct is to ignore. If I get another I will raise a complaint, not my fault they are incompetent.

Had to work a bit harder for the write-off this time. Only 4 more to go for me. I'm going to miss these 5% regular savers!

Looking at my online tax account, when this happened for me in 2017/2018 Virgin have reported the "double" amount to HMRC as interest paid. So it's definitely reportable!

Oh dear. My letter arrived today. It makes perfect sense, no grammatical errors. Unfortunately the Virgin savings log-in is down at the moment. It will have to wait.
