Greenhouse Staging

How big is the greenhouse? Mine is 6 x 8. If plastic, I feel yours may be much smaller? Are you talking mini-greenhouse ?
You dont need to buy formal staging, if no-one is selling it off. As long as what you get can be washed down easily to keep down bugs.
I have two old tables (6x2) from a canteen which was being refurbished. Free. One down either side. Strong and on metal legs. Formica tops. I have a small (2x1 1/2) formica kitchen table (£3) whose legs unscrew (bought from a shop window adv) which I can put down the middle when I am really full with pricked out seedlings in spring. And I put planks of melamine (neat, clean bits of an old bedroom suite) across as bridges for more, higher, light space. Then underneath where it is more shaded put plants, newly sown seeds, and storeage, stuff which does not need much light at that time.
It is all very neat and tidy, honestly, does not look shabby and junky, and easily rearranged if I need to.
If it is one of those small, zip up type, you could do the bricks and planks bookcase style to put you on. Or a bookcase without the back on would serve, letting light in from both sides, if someone is chucking one away.
I know this is improvising, not proper staging, but it may help if you cannot find reasonable priced staging.

I had a new greenhouse last year and it came with some really cheap and nasty "staging". In reality it is just a metal frame which seed trays are supposed to sit in, but they just drop through!
Any ideas on cheap ways to add some staging or where to buy?
ThanksNice to save.0 -
Hi Stitch
If you can get hold of some of those blue plastic trays that Mushrooms etc come in - they fit brilliantly inside - you can put your pots / seed trays etc in - as they have holes etc they will drain well too.
The girl in the next allotment to me works at little chef and she is currently supplying the whole site with them as they are ideal for things like chitting taties - in fact any storage - I've seen them on markets and all over the place - any restaurant or cafe will have loads and I am sure will be happy to get rid - or try asking on freecycle
Failing that you could have a go at making your own with pallets - or bricks and planks.

We use 2 strong mini greenhouses we bought from B&Q in a sale 2 years back. They're made of strong steel with slatted steel shelves and are on castors so we can move them around the greenhouse easily.
On days when frost is forecast we put covers on to give extra frost protection and cut down need for the heater0 -

I made a 6 foot long staging bench out of old wooden pallets. The toughest bit was taking the pallets to bits. Painted up its solid and has 2 shelves so worth a go if you have access to any old palletts locally.0 -

I bought Elite staging for my polytunnel. Not the cheapest, but it'll last for ever
