Greenhouse Staging

What is the best type of staging to buy for my new greenhouse or is it best to make your own? my oh is quite handy and I don't want it to be too costly? My greenhouse is aluminium and glass and measures 6ft x 4ft

Ideally, make your own. I have an 8x6 and made 2 shelf staging out of old pallets for all along one side. Cleaned up and painted its sturdy and looks good all for the sum of approx £10
  • Cool - oh has loads of pallets at work so should be able to get some and construct something (him not me I am rubbish at DIY!!)
  • Did you buy your greenhouse new? Im looking for one of the same size and hoping for a bargain. :D
    Make £10 a Day Feb .....£75.... March... £65......April...£90.....May £20.....June £35.......July £60
  • Hi, yes we did but only cos we got some money given from my oh's mum whose uncle had died! it was £250 from argos, was extremely difficult to construct!!!
  • I use Folding Wooden Staging. It comes ready-assembled and made from treated wood. I find it really useful when you come to growing tomatoes etc and need the floor space, as you can just fold it up out of the way.
It may not be the cheapest way of benching, but you will not regret being able to fold it up out of your way at some stage.
  • Try our 6x4's, they are made by Palram, an international plastics company. Frames are aluminium and the glazings are polycarbonate. We have some discounts on these currently at www.greenhousewarehouse.com.
Alternatively if you prefer glass I would recommend either Simplicity Greenhouses or Elite. Both are UK manufactured and are good quality products. They both have 6x4's in both formats - ie the door in the 4ft side or the 6ft side, depending on your requirements.
  • I've bought the aluminium slatted staging before - not that expensive.

    This one

Definately make sure you can fold up the staging if you want. Our greenhouse was free (but we had to dismantle) and came with wooden staging which OH fixed on wooden staging in both sides. It's rather irritating come summer when I want to plant toms in one of the beds. Also consider higher up staging for seedling growth. If I did it again I'd buy aluminium as it probably takes up less space - and you rapidly grow out of your greenhouse space.

Oh dear....thats the one we were looking at. My OH is quite good at DIY though so would it be difficult for him as well?

Were you otherwise happy with the greenhouse?

My hubby is good at DIY too but really struggled with it, the instructions were rubbish and it took him just over two full days to do it!!!

It is great though, I am really pleased with it, just need to crack on with staging now and get some planting done!! What are you planning on growing in yours?
