Saga card ending?

Poor of MSE not to have included this advice in the article, if they try and hike interest rate it can be rejected and the account closed then paid off at the existing rate over a "reasonable period". Just because they transfer the balance to another party does not mean they can override this, if they try FOS them.

A thought: there are also system outages to be considered, so would it also be of benefit to squire both VISA and MC cards?0

Always a wise thing to do, particularly when travelling abroad. It's not always easy to contact the card issuer from a foreign country, particularly if staying in a hotel that charges exhorbitant rates for even reverse charge phone calls.
Also to a good idea to have a second current account with a few quid in it in case of computer failures or cards being stopped for security checks.0 -
At last, maybe some action.
I cancelled my Saga Platinum Card over 6 months ago, but every month, I receive an email informing me that my card statement is ready!
I have spoken to Customer Services but they are hopeless. They have confirmed that the card is cancelled, but there is no coordination between them and the tech team.
A good move me thinks.0 -
I finally got my notification that the card is ending, in the post yesterday. Not that it concerns me, I haven't used the card since Oct 2013 (due to that I have an expired card, not a currently active one). In fact quite recently I was thinking I should cancel it, I suppose this saves me a call.0

There is also the possibility of being accepted in the meantime by another provider as Saga Personal Finance are saying in their accompanying letter hope we can welcome you back to our brand-new card service later in 2019.
I wonder what numpty thought the logistics through on this and letting their customers go without a card whilst launching a new one months later, couldn't they have planned a seamless changeover ?0 -

It's about profitability. Saga have always struggled to make their cards work, and it's not got any easier under current legislation.
Hmm...that's contrary to what Saga said in their letter to me where they explicitly state it's the card provider that has pulled the plug and it is their intention to try and find another.0 -
That's exactly what I mean.
There's not enough money in it for both Saga and the card provider to be happy.
That's why they keep having to change issuers.0 -
I have a (soon-to-be-ending) Saga Platinum card.
I have replaced it with the Barclays Platinum Cashback Plus travel card, and have found that the Barclaycard is way better than Saga's offering (which was good in its day).
My Barclaycard gives me fee-free retail transactions overseas (as per Saga). Plus, until Aug 2023, there is NO CHARGE from Barclays to withdraw cash overseas from ATMs. Compare this with Saga where it is 2%.
Furthermore, if you withdraw cash overseas using Saga, interest on these withdrawals accrues on a daily basis from the date of withdrawal. Not so with Barclaycard. In effect, the cash withdrawals on Barclaycard are treated like any transaction - in other words, if you pay off your statement in full there will be no interest due on the cash you've withdrawn. Brilliant.
With Barclaycard you get an overall credit limit and within this a cash withdrawal limit. If you're overseas, have made cash withdrawals and are getting close to the cash withdrawal limit, then simply use internet banking to pay off your credit card balance 'early' and this will effectively reset your cash credit.
And finally, Barclaycard have an app and Saga don't. With the Barclaycard app you can see transactions (and cash withdrawals) as soon as they are made. This really helps managing the Barclaycard account on the go on your mobile when you're out of the country.
Goodbye Saga Platinum, hello Barclaycard Platinum Cashback Plus travel card.0 -
