Saga card ending?
Comments

I applied for a second (BT) Halifax Card a while ago, and they gave me a ludicrous credit limit. I think it was £250. But when I was complaining about a related issue some time later, they told me I could have asked for the limit on the first card to be reduced and applied to the second card.0

Have to say got decent limits on both cards with Halifax0

Real problem for those cardholders who are semi-retired or between jobs and not yet on pension as some other cards require a minimum salary.
A credit card with travel rates (cash/tx) to replace Saga Plat Visa looks like Halifax Clarity, Virgin Travel Card or PO Platinum Card.
Are some card applications based on credit score only?
Virgin Travel card and PO Platinum both charge a fee for cash withdrawals abroad. Halifax Clarity and Barclaycard Travel don't.0 -

Each provider will use its own proprietary unpublished internal scoring mechanism, which is likely to use the underlying credit file data itself, plus other data too, such as what you supply on each application.0 -

The limit on my Clarity card was £9800. The limit on my second card was £250. I phoned to cancel the (useless) second card, and they cancelled the wrong one. Eventually got compensation.0 -

Closest are;
Barclaycard Platinum Travel: No fees abroad. This means you won’t pay fees on non-sterling purchases and cash withdrawals until 31 August 2022
or
Barclaycard Platinum Cashback Plus: No fees abroad. This means you won’t pay fees on non-sterling purchases and cash withdrawals until 31 August 2023
As you don't pay interest on cash withdrawals for the promotional period. SAGA charged 2%. Halifax Clarity charges per day.0 -

Thanks for info - also seen Virgin Travel and Creation Everyday as options
The one situation causing an issue if I applied for any card is:
1) good credit record; house owner
2) BA Amex credit card active (that's why need MC or Visa where not accepted)
3) savings/investment income
BUT
4) no salary (currently semi-retired and not in employment)
Salary is required & specified is all T&Cs I've seen.
Is it possible to get a CC without a salary but a good credit record?
I've seen a number of similar comments from people losing their Saga Plat card so guess it may help others:beer:0 -
Just got the letter today. Fortunately don't have any outstanding balance but not sure if we can find a similar card now we are not working. We only used it for travel really or convenience and paid the balance off straight away. Will check out the suggestions on here.0

Given, like others I'm sure as it is a Saga card that I am a pensioner and Not earning, applying for another credit card and transferring a sizeable balance from my Saga card to another will not be easy at all, particularly a card which offers such advantages in foreign travel exchange costs.
Given the date, a day before Brexit when we have to cough up, can only be interpreted one way - it is Brexit related!0 -
We are both retired and my husband has just been approved for a Halifax Clarity card with a decent credit limit, actually higher than he asked for. I think the criteria relate to income rather than employment status.0
