Possibly yes but it's in an area with lots of big expensive houses, I'd be surprised if they couldn't afford a more comfy big car - it's a 2005 reg if that helps?

Ah, ducks backside model. Comfort for the back isn't the reason then. Lol.
  • Good Morning All,  I hope that someone will be very kind and help me: I have a private reg to put on my husbands second hand Peugeot KS15 which was registered on the 29/04/2015. It is MR64 EEN but the GOV.UK site says I cannot use this plate. Can anyone tell me why? Is this private reg too "young" ? It driving me NUTS as I cannot get through to them due to COVID ( which I get). Thanks to the person/s who see this and help

64 (winter 2014/15) plates are older than 15 (summer 2015), so there should be no problem transferring a 64 onto a 15.

There must be some other reason, and - yes - you're going to need to contact DVLA.

Assuming the MR64 is on retention (it has to be or you can't assign it) then it could be to do with some outstanding tax on the new car. You can't assign a plate to a car that hasn't been taxed/SORN'd continuously for the last 5 years.
(I assume that in typical .gov fashion, they have missed out a few things that would clarify this, like if the car is less than 5 years old, or has been "in trade")

    Have a look at

I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

  • Thanks for the replies will indeed have a look at link and call them at 8am tomorrow :-)

  • I have an S555 reg plate on my Subaru impreza Kia Cee'd, it came with the car but I quite like it now as I know the number, I might keep it for my next car.
Nothing to see here, move along.

I've never considered a private plate before, but I recently bought a 20-plate second hand car and the reg is all the highest scoring scrabble letters. I foresee issues trying to give this out over the phone etc...

What's the minimum it would cost to change the reg and how would I do it? Is it safe to buy off ebay or gumtree, or should I stick to the number plate websites?
While my initials would be nice, I'd be happy with another 20 plate or one of these dateless ones
