It seems I'm unable to post using URLs or image URLs.

I've searched for the message "Sorry as a new user you are not allowed to post with links. This is done to stop spammers clogging up the site. Please edit your message below to continue." but cannot find any guidance as to how 'new user' might be determined.

I've received my 9 year membership badge, so it doesn't seem to be based on account age.

It's based on how long you have been a register user AND how many posts you have to your name. The rules for this are not public. This is from the "Forum Rules":
Forum users who've been registered for less than a certain number of days with less than a certain number of posts have this under their username when they post. We hope it helps other, more regular forum users be more tolerant of new users who may ask questions that seem obvious to them.

New forum users can't initially post links. This is to help deter spammers advertising on our forum. The point at which forum users will be able to post links is "top secret" for the same reason

Ok, thanks for answering the question.

I think the error message could do with improvement - but I expect the instances of users with long standing accounts who have not posted often enough is low.

    Hi Chris Type R.

As TadleyBaggie has mentioned it's a combination of post count and length of time since the forum was joined.

The message is aimed at new forum members but is used universally and does, in a few instances, affect longer term forum users who may have joined a while ago but not posted much.

    Andrea :)

  • Thanks for the information. I understand why the rules are in place on this but it can also be a little frustrating for a new user to not be able to share something useful.

For 1 person sharing something useful there would be 100 spammers doing the opposite.
