Hello :hello: from another fellow Scot! Well done on having your light bulb moment :T
My boyfriend is as passionate about footie as you are. Rangers are his team. He hasn't any debt to pay off however since he has started to save towards us living together he has stopped going to the away games. I suppose he has the luxury of watching them on Setanta however if you are really serious of getting rid of your debt and moving in with your girlfriend giving up the away games is something I'd strongly recommend.
You should do a snowball calculation on www.whatsthecost.com to see how much sooner you'll be debt free with the extra cash you'll save.Jan 1st 07 Car loan £4830.46@12% Personal Loan £11,517@8% variable Overdraft £1500 July 2009Halifax-£0Debt free date 14th July 2009 :j0 -
11k in debt but you won't miss the occasional footie match to help your future? on your head be it.. you've got to make some proper sacrifices if you want to push this debt down quickly
Can you not go to the pub to watch some away games?0 -

I'd spend more than £15 in the pub! I usually get in for Cheapr sometimes under £5 caus im only 5ft 4 and still pass in the child game :P
Theres no way to listen/watch the games we're Partick Thistle not Chelsea.. For those who don't know Scottish Football we're Scotlands Equivilent to say Accrington Stanley..
To Be Honest.. As much as i do want to be debt free.. I cant totally hide away in the house and not still enjoy my life.. My Footie is my one enjoyment i wont give up.. I'll happily stay in and not spend anything for the rest of the week as long as i have saturday afternoons for footie! Its not much to ask..Lightbuld Moment 1/11/07 Total Debt: To Be Updated

Its not the footie itself thats expensive, noone is asking you to give that up. Its the travelling to and from matches that mounts up when your team are playing away. I think you need to give serious thought to how much you want to move in with your girlfriend and how soon you envisage that happening.Jan 1st 07 Car loan £4830.46@12% Personal Loan £11,517@8% variable Overdraft £1500 July 2009Halifax-£0Debt free date 14th July 2009 :j0

I think you and your girlfriends should work out how much it would cost you per month to live together, (have a look at some other peoples soa's for an idea) and come up with a figure that you would need to contribute each, inc. rent/mortgage, insurances, council tax, utilities, food etc, and then attempt to put that money towards your debts every month BEFORE you assign any money for anything else. Any money left over can then be spent how you wish (car, footie etc) but this will give you a realistic idea of how it would be when you're living together as well as hammering down your debts. Good luck !!Mortgage Total: £49,992/ £75,000

OK so you're not ready to give up your away games at this point. That's fine-we all have our "no go" areas at certain points in our lives and you're young-Couple of years down the line you may feel differently if it's the choice between a nice place with your OH or away games.
However..........To help you knock the gambling on the head completely why not give yourself an ultimantum of if you gamble you have to skip the next away game. It might help you keep off the gambling as it sounds like you still feel tempted a bit.
You're definitely heading in the right direction-well done on how well you're doing.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Travel if a set price of £130 for the season on the bus, this can be paid up over the entire season with as much or as little as you wish as long as it is paid by the end of the season
Was at the game yesterday, Derby game away, First time we have beat them away in 10years!!! Managed to get in for a student (Don't ask, Im not!) and as it was local my mate gave me a lift instead of catchin the bus so total spend for the day £7.. infact total spend for the week £7!
Me and the OH altho talkin about gettin a place it wont be for at least another year.. although id be willling to wait longer until im sorted financially but you never know whats happening so until the time comes i'll just keep tryin to get as much of my debt paid off as possible.
Mates Birthday tomorrow and alot of them are goin out for a meal then for some drinks.. i've said ill skip the meal and just meet them in the pub after but with the car so won't be spending anything on drink..Usually we sort it so if someone drives they get soft drinks bought in return for takin folk home at the end of the nightLightbuld Moment 1/11/07 Total Debt: To Be Updated

I hear what you are saying about the football and I can see this is something you are never going to negotiate about, however, could you add up how much a year on average you spend on the football including EVERYTHING, season ticket, travel programmes, food while at the matches etc etc. Then divide it by 12 mths and see how much you need to find each month to fund it?
Then could you challenge yourself to make that EXTRA income every month. By any means such as bar job, matched betting, online surveys, ebay etc etc.
Then all your wages could be for debts, living expenses and maybe savings??
Just a thought to give you a challenge.0 -

Sounds like the best possible solution.. Appologies if people think i'm being demissive in not giving up the footie it's just a rather massive part of my life and something that i really aint willing to give up..
Adding up the yearly cost is pretty hard but heres my estimates, I'll go from October 06 to October 07
Season Ticket... 150
Supporters Bus.. 130
20 (approx inc Cup) x Away Matches @ Approx £15... 300
6 x Scotland Home @ £27... 162
3 x Scotland Away Trips @ £250 Approx... £750
Total.. 1492
So say 1500 Divided by 12... 125 Per Month
This probably seems alot but remember that figure includes 3 week long Holidays.. I never went away other than them and the away entry is estimates.. it will probably be at least £50 less than that..
Add to that in the next year i wont have the 3 scotland Trips or the 6 scotland home games which whipes a good £900 off the total.. I may be away next summer *fingers crossed* but have money set aside for that.. However i think the £125 a month is doable... What yous think?Lightbuld Moment 1/11/07 Total Debt: To Be Updated

I'm guessing it may not be a good idea to suggest this to someone with a gambling problem!:rotfl:0
