It would be getting couriered out on a tracked and signed for service whether done through ebay or Gumtree.

Tbh, without asking on here, I wouldn't know what to do, and he says he hasn't made a sale on Gumtree before that wasn't cash on collection, so I am starting to think, for the small savings (in comparison to the overall price) it might just be best to go ebay.

He's getting a friend to help him do the invoice when he gets hom from work as he hasn't done one before.

We've agreed that he's happy to do either, I'll have a think on whether to do ebay or Gumtree, but is doing the invoice ready so if need it it is done.

Chances are, if you shared an email address via eBay messaging, he'll be charged the eBay fee as it stood and you'll both get warnings.

Have received the invoice, and it all looks fine to me, as best as I can tell, unless anyone thinks it is a bad idea. As far as I can make out, if he did try and scam me (which I don't think he will as he seems genuine, and I'm usually a very careful person, which is why I have posted to ask about this here and on another forum I use regularly just to get as best a wealth of knowledge as possible) I've more than covered myself to get a refund.

It looks fine - I say that with the caveat that I don't know anything else to do with the transaction but base it only on what you have posted.

Good luck and do post back when you have the items.

Thanks, will do. Appreciate your time responding and helping me out as best you can.

I'm going to do it through Gumtree. Based on the advice you have given and the advice of someone I chat to on another forum I use who has experience as a buyer and seller, I'm going to go for it. He agrees it all looks legit and I've covered myself fully.

That in no way means I'm putting anything on anyone who has advised me should anything go wrong, I know it is my decision at the end of it all.

    Thanks again :)

Thanks again for the help. Pay by CC then, got it. I don't actually have a CC, I have a debit card though, and assume the same applies?
No. Credit Cards are covered by Section 75 protection, whereas Debit Cards are (usually) not.

Oh, so take it that is a sticking point, then?

    Shame this wasn't mentioned earlier.

Best off just doing through ebay then for the sake of saving £25, if I'm not totally covered?

Post 5 at 3.28 mentioned the credit card angle.

Even so, many cards do not allow a claim via a third party merchant account so it may not be such a deal breaker.
