I am always one for returning a faulty item the the seller, but should you buy 2nd hand then you should be able to go to the manufacturer and use the rest of the warrenty. they have a daabase of all serial numbers so know when each console was produced and shipped.
superscaper said its up to cash converters...confused now!
how would i go abt claiming from microsoft in the event of it dying of death after the cc warranty?Fr. Stack: While you were out, I got the keys to your car. And drove it into a big wall. And if you don't like it, tough. I've had my fun, and that's all that matters.0 -
Regarding the sales of goods act the reseller (cash convertors) are obbliged to sell products of satifactory quality without inherent problems etc read up on the sales of goods act for the details. But as yours is from a reseller that sells everything getting a replacement/refund under the sales of goods act could be tricky so your best option would be to just phone microsoft should the console go faulty, their returns process is very good (they have had a lot of practice at it) as the 360 is only 2 years old everyone currently is covered by the 3 year warrenty for the ring of death but microsoft will also have a database of all the serial numbers so will know when your console was produced so will be able to provide the 3 years from that point, they normally give an extra month to give time for shipping ans sitting on a shelf. infact I just checked on mine the manufacture date is on the console where the wireless adaptor sits on the back.0

My son is now on his 3rd console console since Xmas 2006.
Whilst I understand that MS has admitted certain faults with their older models, it concerns me greatly that having spent a lot of money on a console, I simply wasn't prepared to send it back to them, possibly have to wait for upto 6 weeks, only to be fobbed off with someone else's recon console.
In the end, I persisted with making lots of phone calls and letter writing to the supplier (Great Universal) and eventually having a brand new replacement.
When the 2nd console became faulty, I demanded a refund which I eventually received.
I have now purchased the 3rd console from Argos, as they were doing the best deal at the time, however, when I asked the question about their policy on faulty goods, the CS girl advised that their policy with XBOX consoles is that they will replace within 1 month, but, if it goes wrong outside this period, then it is down to the customer contacting & dealing directly with MS
As I believe this last model to be one of the newer models, I am keeping everything crossed that I won't need to worry about it becoming faulty. Watch this space!0 -
littlejohn- so even though i bought it 2nd hand microsoft will honour the warranty? i presume they will ask me for a reciept, which will prove it is 2nd hand.Fr. unlikely M$ would ask for a reciept especially on a 3 year warrenty.
from what ive seen its all done on the phone and a case of returning the 360.
however on 2nd hand mackhines ensure the security seal is intact or all warrenty is void.its behind the removable front dfaceplate0 -
They have been swapping consoles with voided stickers too so if you find yours to be missing or damaged I wouldnt bother too much.
Mine hasnt been removed but I removed the front today and it looks like it has.
If you ever need to phone microsoft just don't tell them your not the one who bought it in the first place.0 -
Edit: Rereading my thread I thought it may be useful to some to copy and paste my account of past experiences, with pics, from another thread I made at the time, elsewhere on the www. Hope it helps in some way.
Then someone suggest hassling Comet a bit more as it's their problem as they are the seller really?
Nope, that didn't work either - update...
Then...
This really annoyed me and to this day I never managed to replace the games, I'm impressed that the OP was offered such good titles or Xbox hardware as gifts... that would have been nice.
Picture of the damage: You should be able to spot one or two quite distinctive rings towards the edges on each disc.
And that was pretty much the end of it all, no problems with the Xbox since though it does sound rough a lot of the times and my spidey sense is often set to "Acting suspiciously..." just in case something else goes wrong.
Like I said, I hope this helps by charting my own personal experience of the problems I had with MS and my Xbox 360.
my friend had this problem and it was originally from moving his xbox while the thing was running. There is apparently a sharp edge inside that can scrape the discs. There are lots of discussions on the web about this and even companies cashing in on removing the sharp edge.
The disc issue my friend got resolved with a company on the web who recover discs.they basically remove a small layer from the disc and everything works fine again. This only cost him £3 and was a day turnaround.
hope this helps0 -
microsoft offer a disc replacement service for some games

..they charge you for it! it says in the small print on that link 'i authorise microsoft to charge me for the replacement disc' and you have to put your card details in!Fr.
