I applied online for the Sainsbury credit card over a week ago and have had no communication. I called today and waited 29 minutes before somebody answered and then the agent had to put me in another queue!!! Gave up in the end

Their on-line system has been farqued for a month on and off, so I suspect they are swamped. They probably don't deserve the custom.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Credit Cards, Savings & investments, and Budgeting & Bank Accounts boards. I paid mine off 2 weeks ago and closed it, wouldn't go with them again
I would recommend Virgin though, applied on Thursday last week and got the card yesterday0 -
They're awful, having massive issues at the minute failing to collect direct debits leading to late payment fees etc then taking hours to pick up the phone and still not sorting it. Avoid!0

All companies have a phase of problems, it doesn't make them monsters and if I was fortunate enough to be eligible for one of their generous long-term 0% cards, I would snatch at the chance.
Keep phoning them until the problem is sorted, there isn't much more to it. A lot of people are working hard to build their credit file or repair it enough to receive a mainstream card, so do not take it for granted. Go with someone like Vanquis and you will soon beg for a card like Sainsbury's offer.
I understand extended waiting is horrible, but think of the long-term benefits ahead such as 25+ months of 0% on purchases and/or balance transfers.Advice provided from this account does not consist of any professional knowledge. If you read the board you'll find various stories of people having problems and flooding the helpline with calls, so your long wait isn't unusual. Call centres have staff for a certain volume of calls, an unusual blip caused by a glitch will overwhelm their lines.
My card has a zero balance, unimpressed by their website and the low limit (esp as cards I applied for after have been 3-5x that limit) and that they auto reject any credit limit increase requests more than 10%. So aiming to close, which cannot be done online, only on the phone!0 -
Just as an addition to this thread, Sainsbury's have acknowledged their recent problems with Direct Debits etc and will apparently be refunding any late payment charges.Neither a borrower or lender be; for loan oft loses both itself and friend.0
