  • "Keep an eye on the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves" has never been truer!
Sometimes you just need to buy a few things though, so don't beat yourself up :)

I can't believe how close you are to having your own home!
It's so exciting and I hope everything goes smoothly for you.
  • We can't go through life depriving ourselves of everything

As long as the debts are going down and nothing is being added to them then we are heading in the right direction and the odd pastry isn't going to make the wheels come off

Annoying though how those little payments all add up

Wow, so exciting on the house news. What an achievement. Sometimes you just have to jump straight into these things.

Can't wait to hear how it all unfolds.

  • Thanks all. Have met with mortgage advisor now (a new one, not the guy I spoke to in the summer) & they are making our application this week. Should have a decision in principle by the end of this week, then a final decision 3-4 weeks after.
As much as I want this property (& so I can't wait to be able to get surveys done & relax about that), if you're reading this you know how much a successful mortgage application will mean to me. I'll be so relieved to know that my debt hasn't held us back. Urgh, just need to be patient & not strung out while we wait.
And meanwhile, keep budgeting + hoarding the pennies! Next month the amount owing on my cards will be less than 15k.

  • It's so exciting

I already have a picture board of how I want my place to live when I am eventually in the position to buy
  • I am really excited for you :) Hope it all comes through XXXXXXXX

  • Mortgage in principle agreed today - better than being declined, for sure, but I'm not getting excited as we're still a long way from being fully accepted. Step in the right direction!
So the fee for the mortgage advisor became due today, a few hundred £, - the cool thing about that was that I had the cash for it & could pay it for both of us without blinking! yay! my scrimping & saving for the last couple of months is paying me back now.

How is it only October 4th? I've spent most of my socialising budget already. Another night out tonight, & Saturday, then I'll knock it on the head & try to hibernate for the rest of the month.

Great news about the MIP, fingers crossed for the full application. It's great that you paid the advisor in full too :)

I think October is going to be a VERY long month :(

  • Starting to slup back into little ‘it doesn’t matter’ spends, & they are adding up! When work is busy & I’m tired, I buy snacks & treats to keep me going. And wine on the way home! Need to find a challenge, like # of NSDs, or something. And make a big batch of food & snacks to have instead of pre-bought stuff.
