Round about car accident
Yesterday morning approx 9.50am I was following my partner in his mini as he was taking back a rental van. He stops at the round about right hand lane to take the third exit of a big double laned round about. He sets of its very quiet and clear weirdly. I then stop look indicate and it’s clear so I set of I pass the second exist I look left and indicate ready to take my third exist I am still in my right lane following the lay out and to my left I see a lorry coming straight at me out of the second exist . Without any time I get hit in my left passenger door, which my two year old was in the front passenger seat, she was in her car seat with the air bag off - law requirement. We were lifted up six foot in th air and flew backwards into a lamp post. The lorry has come straight in to the round about expecting to go right around the round the round about in the left lane as I was making my exit. My 9 year old was in the back behind me. Thankfully we only have cuts, bruises and whip lash we are alive the car is mangled. My partner watched it happen in the rear windoe as he was waiting for me to make the exit and I disappeared behind a lorry to come flying out backwards. Which sound very unreal and I can’t remember it at all.
The driver said to my partner it was my fault he said “He was in wrong lane but He was indicating” I didn’t see him at all untill he was hitting me full force to my left passenger door sending me into a spin antic clockwise. He just appeared out of no where. He didn’t have a trailer on the back and i suspect he was trying to get out of the junction he was in very quickly and looked right and not notice me in front.
What is your guys opinions?

If the damage is on the side of your vehicle, then you didn't check to see if it was clear before you changed lanes.
Did you cross a lane marking?0 -
It's hard to tell from what you've written. If you were hit on the driver's side, it's almost certainly your fault (on a roundabout).
When you make a statement to your insurance company, you need to make sure it's presented much better than here. Correct spellings. And paragraphs. Otherwise it immediately gives the impression you're careless.
TBH - alarm bells rang when you said you were following another vehicle."Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance" - Confucius0 -
If I read this rightto my left I see a lorry coming straight at me out of the second exist
The lorry joined the roundabout and hit their vehicle, rather than a lane change hit.0 -

but its ok for the lorry to enter the roundabout without it being clear to do so?0 -

Did you read the Ops post0 -
OP almost every post on here will tell you its your fault, thats the way it is on this board.
Its difficult without actually seeing the collision for anyone to say for sure0 -
To have hit on the side indicates the lorry didn't see the car on the roundabout. Even if the OP had been going round the roundabout it sounds as if the lorry would still have hit them, but on their near-side rear quarter.
The OP might've been in the wrong lane and maybe should probably have moved to the left a bit, but I think the lorry didn't see them (probably assumed behind the rental van was clear). Being a partner of the van driver, they were probably closer to the van than the lorry anticipated any other vehicle to be and the lorry driver just saw the larger vehicle and assumed it was OK to keep driving onto the roundabout without slowing/stopping.
Difficult to say without a Google Streetview link to the roundabout so we get a clear picture of the layout and lane markings etc.0 -
