  • My Iresa account got transferred to Octopus and I subsequently switched to Yorkshire Energy which completed 17th September. I was around £260 in credit with Iresa when they ceased trading and after taking what I owed Octopus for the time with them they have today refunded the remaining £86 credit to my bank account even though I had immediately cancelled the Iresa DD when they failed and never gave any bank details to Octopus.

I switched to Breeze Energy on the 28th September and my final bill from Octopus arrived by email last night, had to wait just under 3 weeks. Have checked the figures and it is correct.

I think a lot depend on how quickly the gaining supplier get the reading verified and agreed with the losing supplier.

Some are quicker than others and I think that those of us who smartly jumped to Eversmart just overwhelmed them.

Unfortunately IRESA had made a real pigs ear of my meter readings (although I sent them in once a month) that it probably wasn't all that easy to get them verified.

I'm still arguing with both Octopus and ES to sort out my transfer readings. Apparently they have now agreed a guesstimate between themselves but I'm disputing it.

I dont see why I should pay Octopus 250 units at 3.5p more than I used especially as I gave ES an accurate meter reading which they've not used.

I know that its only just under £9 but if they don't get it right at the beginning then it'll just go down hill.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers
  • Well just received my final bill from the robbers known as Octopus Energy, I worked out it was 27% dearer than Iresa rates. Am I glad I moved as quickly as I could. I accept someone may want to pay slightly more for good customer service, but 27% seems quite high to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now at 5 weeks since I switched from Octopus on the 12th September and still no final bill or change to my account at all. Will give it the last week to make it the 6 weeks and chase things up as I really could do with my £165 (or whatever is left after the much higher electric charges are taken off).
    I miss Iresa...

I have many doubts now as to whether paying more actually gets good customer service as I've been with more expensive tariffs and had worse customer service experiences than much cheaper tariffs or companies. You may only speak to your electric/gas supplier a few times when with them so for me I don't mind waiting an extra 10 minutes or so on the phone when pretty much all their numbers are free to call now (or inclusive minutes etc.) when saving maybe hundreds of pounds on a product that's the same no matter where it comes from (aside from the renewable factor etc.)

Not missing the power and love? Tbf the 11% increase does not apply to former IRESA customers, although ENSTROGA was cheaper anyway and is fixed.
