Can’t connect to a TV aerial- coaxial cable

Options
This is probably really basic question, but I would much appreciate your help.

I got new TV with Freeview and aerial cable to connect it. When I got it home it turned out there's no aerial plug in the wall, just Virgin box from previous tenants.

I asked my landlord and was told that there are two TV points, one in the living room and one in the bedroom and that the cable should be hidden behind the Virgin box. I unscrewed the box, with hopes to find regular old school aerial cable, but instead there's a coaxial cable connected to a splitter (I assume Virgin cable) and another coaxial cable not connected to anything (I assume aerial?). The TV point in the other room is coaxial as well.

Can aerial cable be coaxial? Is it going to work if I get some sort of connector/adapter?
