Agree with Neil, it doesn't look like you have an aerial cable.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

Thank you for your help. I'll try to get an F connector and see how that goes.0

This might be a silly question but do you have an aerial on the roof or even in the loft ? That extra cable inside the wall is probably an old VM extension cable. It would have connected to a splitter that has been removed and replace with that attenuator
Do not connect it to your TV.
You need a real antenna installed for your TV.
It's likely your landlord has no clue what the difference is between VM and Freeview with a proper antenna.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
Depending when the Virgin Box was installed, the extra white cable with the end cut off is probably a redundant FM radio feed, same as I've got. Nothing comes down it at all now. In their early days the TV feed didn't carry any radio channels. I used to use an old Sony FM Tuner with that cable which worked fine. When it all went digital they put radio channels on the newer TV boxes and disconnected the FM feed. My FM Tuner went back into storage.0

Have you checked to see if you have an aerial? If you do you should be able to see where the cable from the aerial goes to, if you have two points there is a good chance you have a booster with multiple sockets in the loft, possibly somewhere else (we have known them to be in wardrobes, above doorways, behind the TV in the lounge etc) it could be that that booster is turned off so may not work even if you find the actual connection point.
Do you know where the point is in the bedroom? Give that one a go, if it works that is confirmation you have an aerial and it is connected.
The aerial point might not even be anywhere near where the virgin box is, have you looked around the other walls? It could even be just a cable coming in with a plug on the end, doesn't have to be a socket.
To complicate matters, virgin, freeview and satellite all use coaxial cable.
One thing worth noting, you obviously have freesat on the TV. If you do not have an aerial do you have a satellite dish? What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
