Not a case of would you like a smart meter its when can we come and fit it. My reply "when its compatible with every energy company".
The guy goes on to say the latest update will make it work as a standard meter if i switch to a company its not compatible with. So your admitting even with the update its still not compatible with all companies. Why would i want that then. If another company may have to fit their own smart meter.
He just kept repeating it will revert to a standard meter, I already have a standard meter so why do i need a smart one if other companies may need to change the meter also?
I would rather wait until they iron out all the quirks. When everyone gets a smart meter will we all get charged by the PF not the kWh though?

Ofgem, GOV, and suppliers all want them installed. They aren't compulsory and you can choose not to have one. Everything from sugarcoating to sneaky installs to proposed legislative enforcement, to pushing householders - moral low ground. Its at about 180% of costs already.
I'm neither 'tin hat' / health / privacy / for / against, just don't be afraid to say no, you do have the right to refuse a [SMIP] smart meter if you don't want one.
GOV UK, 32% energy cost savings - households, 49% - supplier's, remainder is carbon savings and operational efficiency gains on renewable's.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem.
