Dont worry about it. Its just a meter but more modern.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

If you don't want a Smart Meter you can just say no. It's your right to do so.
I declined one when I was with Scottish Power, and now I've moved to Outfox the Market, I doubt I'll be asked again.
Looking in the communal Electricity meter cupboard, it seems like none of my neighbours have a smart meter, either.0 -
Tell them you're a meter reader and you don't want to lose your job. Seems a popular line around here and BG sent me a letter confirming I don't want one and won't be bothered againThe best portion of your life will be the small, nameless moments you spend smiling with someone who matters to you.0

SMETS2 roll out date has been pushed back 2 months (5 dec 2019)
There are also plans to get all the older SMETS1 meters to talk to the new data handling company, so they stay smart as suppliers are switched (a simple solution to the problem)0 -
Why do people say this?
Pensioners are not vulnerable, it is the people with tin hats who get their knickers in a twist because they think that their meters can be hacked because they are smart meters.
I wish I could hack my smart meter and display my usage on my computer."In the future, everyone will be rich for 15 minutes"0 -

Plans ?? Lots of people talking about adoption of SMETS1 meters into DCC - doesn't mean it'll actually happen in a timely fashion!!!
As is often reported, many of these SMETS1 installs don't even talk successfully with the Utility supplier who installed them in the first place!!:(0 -

With respect, you should be hoping that GCHQ et al have put sufficient cyber security measures in place to stop you and everybody else from hacking your meter. Smart meters contain remote disconnection devices. If all the meters in your area were disconnected simultaneously, this would cause major damage to the National Grid. It is getting cyber security right that has caused a lot of delay to the rollout programme. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Sadly, you will be bothered again as Ofgem requires suppliers to consider contacting you each time they come up with a new engagement strategy. From a recent Ofgem letter to all suppliers:
Quote: While consumers are not obliged to have a smart meter installed, suppliers should consider appropriate re-contact strategies based on customers’ preferences, contact history and reasons for not previously accepting a smart meter. Overly repetitive and coercive approaches to consumer engagement, as opposed to innovative and tailored re-contact strategies, can be counterproductive to the successful achievement of the rollout obligations. The rollout of smart meters is not covered by GDPR opt out. In sum, saying no does not mean no in smart meter rollout terms. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Having missed several calls from EDF (googled and it was from the smart meter team), managed to answer the phone in time.
Not a case of would you like a smart meter its when can we come and fit it. My reply "when its compatible with every energy company".
The guy goes on to say the latest update will make it work as a standard meter if i switch to a company its not compatible with. So your admitting even with the update its still not compatible with all companies. Why would i want that then. If another company may have to fit their own smart meter.
He just kept repeating it will revert to a standard meter, I already have a standard meter so why do i need a smart one if other companies may need to change the meter also?
I would rather wait until they iron out all the quirks. When everyone gets a smart meter will we all get charged by the PF not the kWh though?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Not sure about the SMETS2 rollout, but you are right about the SMETS1 - by the end of 2020, all SMETS1 must be upgraded so they communicate via the DCC - that means they will remain smart meters when a customer switches supplier.
