Three: 'We’re making some changes to our Pay As You Go pricing.'
http://www.three.co.uk/payasyougopricechanges
Some but not all PAYG rates increase on 7 August 2018.
Hard to believe that my UK>Switzerland calls will cost £1.50 per minute. They won't of course. Other services are available, including 18185, Togglemobile etc.
What happened to 3-2-1 and Go Roam?

£1.50 per minute to call the Channel Islands from the UK?
They are having a laugh. The termination rate is currently a little over 1p per minute.0 -
Someone has to pay for "free" EU roaming imposed on the networks.
Call overseas using Ringo or similar apps. Not quite the value on PAYG is on Ringo is when you call using a contract SIM with unlimited UK minutes.0 -
So what is the difference? It should be easy to find the cost of making PAYG calls from the UK to Switzerland, but it isn't.These are for "International calls from the UK to" a country so Go Roam isn't affected. And the ones increasing have never been 3p per minute although the price increase is large though.
The page I referenced shows £1.50 per minute. :rotfl: I checked the Go Roam page and found 3p per minute. http://www.three.co.uk/support/roaming/switzerland#payg
Quite a difference, but how does somebody less knowlegable than you find out the correct rate?
Oh, btw. Switzerland is one of Three's top 10 roaming destinations, according to the Three website.0 -
Roaming within the EU at no extra charge came into force in parallel with caps on the wholesale rates that carriers could impose on each other for carrying these calls. So, it works both ways: while they earn less from people visiting from abroad, they also pay out less when their own customers travel abroad. None of these calls are being made at a loss.Frozen_up_north wrote: »Someone has to pay for "free" EU roaming imposed on the networks.0 -
Roaming is when 'you' are abroad. When you are in UK calling abroad, you are not roaming. So what is the difference? It should be easy to find the cost of making PAYG calls from the UK to Switzerland, but it isn't.

Currently its 46p on payg to call Switzerland, £1.50 from 7th August.0 -
Go Roam allows you to call back to the UK for the same cost as a UK to UK call for your tariff. A great bit of EU consumer protection. So what is the difference?
Calls when you are in the UK to other countries are governed by your mobile providers' tariff. You can find the price guide for 3 at http://www.three.co.uk/Three_price_guide . There is a link to it on every page at the 3 website.
That is the difference.0 -
To make an international call from UK to Switzerland costs 46p/min, £1.50 from Aug 7th, on Three PAYG. If you cross the Channel and connect to a French network you can then call Switzerland for 3p/min because you are roaming and the EU regulations require calls throughout Europe to cost no more than for local use on the home network. The page I referenced shows £1.50 per minute. I checked the Go Roam page and found 3p per minute.
Quite a difference, but how does somebody less knowlegable than you find out the correct rate?Evolution, not revolution0 -
Currently its 46p on payg to call Switzerland, £1.50 from 7th August.
Thanks. So from 46p to £1.50 next week? Ouch.To make an international call from UK to Switzerland costs 46p/min, £1.50 from Aug 7th, on Three PAYG.
When I arrive in Switzerland, I get an SMS saying:
I get similar messages in other European countries. It would be curious almost beyond belief if UK>CH calls were to cost 46p/£1.50 at the same time as CH>UK calls cost 3p.Welcome to Switzerland. It's 3p/min, 2p/text, 1p/MB to call and text UK, EU & EEA numbers & get online here ,,,
I guess I'll find out soon enough, though the lack of itemised calls may make this a little tricky.
In the meantime, I'll take a look at Smarty:- includes Switzerland in 'EU'
- UK>CH landlines and mobiles @ 10p/min
- runs on Three
- itemised calls
-
UK>CH 3p or 9p (calculator currently offline)
