Sim for porting number
Hey all,
I've got a BT sim only and I'll be switching to a new BT sim only contract but obviously I cannot port within the same network and I need to go to a different network and come back.
Has anybody done this recently with a particular network without any issue/need to top up?
In the past I've done this with Vodafone but I'd rather avoid them after the last experience..

Don't you need to buy credit or a bundle to register a giffgaff sim?0

Have you tried ringing BT and ask them to move the new contract on to your old SIM/Number?0

But if you want to keep your number and the current provider will not let you, it is worth it. And yes Giffgaff get to keep the unused credit balance when you port out.0 -
Yes you need to put on the minimum credit amount so that you can port a number in and then port it out again .

There shouldn't normally be an issue with potentially losing a number when moving contracts with the same provider.
Is there a contract problem that requires it?0 -

There is unless it's a so-called "upgrade".0 -

I'd like to understand what the issue is.
OFCOM has gone to great lengths to ensure that people are able to keep their numbers when moving between providers, so I'd imagine that they'd be concerned if providers are routinely threatening the loss of numbers to manipulate access to different contracts with the same provider.0
