I bet you're really a friendly person in real life.

I said a number of times that I DO REGULARLY TOP UP MY OWN W/W. Read and be polite. Simple?
Fair enough, and so is AdrianC's point. I'm sure we've all missed things in our motoring careers. It's happened to me, but I get annoyed with myself, and don't come online to complain and pass the buck.

Far too many rude people hiding behind keyboards (and not reading the whole thing)

I've just read the whole thing. Nothing in it has anything to do with your car being diesel so your title is misleading. If you passed without the rear washer last year, you got lucky, it doesn't set a precedent for the rest of your life!
And to repeat everyone, whilst you repeat yourself to them - this is a money saving forum. FILL your screenwash BEFORE handing your car to a garage, giving them one less thing to charge you for. It also happens to be one less thing to fail an MOT on.

Only insofar as finding a competent tester is "lucky".

The rear washer is never testable. If you think it is, then point me to the bit of the tester manual which says it is...
    https://www.mot-testing.service.gov.uk/documents/manuals/class3457/

    Clue: "Windscreen" implicitly means "front".

My car had its MOT done today, it failed. But strangly they put as a advisory the rear seatbelts, which they could not check because the seats were down at the back. To my commom-sense, either they test them or its a fail.

You'd rather they fail it because the seats were down?
The tester has limited time to do the test, and doesn't need to faff around cleaning and dismantling things, or moving stuff.

The common sense attitude is to indicate that an item couldn't be tested if it isn't hugely safety critical, the test acts in favour of the customer.

e.g. "Sill protectors fitted- unable to check outer sill for corrosion" "Engine tray fitted-unable to check for oil leaks"
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

They can't test the belts if there's a child seat in there, either.

    Should that be a fail?
Or should they move the seat, with the risk of damaging it or not securing it properly?

If you take something in with a third row of seats, folded, because of stuff in the boot, what should the tester do with the stuff in the boot to unfold the seat to test the belts?
  • My 24 year old petrol guzzling Volvo 2.3ltr. turbo estate passed the MOT last week with only one advisory. The tester wrote that there was no little green fir tree hanging from the rear view mirror and the car smelt of dog.
If I buy a little fir tree from Asda will it last until next years MOT or should I wait and perhaps they may be on offer in the next January sales?
If I wait till January will Mrs.Wilberforce at number 37 still be up for a quickie in the back seat when I give her a lift to bingo or will the dog smell put her off ?

You and I obviously think differently about why people use seat belts

Again, seat belts. Before my car goes for an MOT, I round and clip,un click and re click the seat belts.
I feel leaving them in place makes it easier for the tester and lets me double check the belts. I rarely carry more than 1 rear passenger so an issue might not have been obvious
