MOTs... Are they really culling older diesel cars?

You don't have to run the tank empty, y'know. Just... top it up until it's full periodically, whether it needs it or not.0

As above. For the w/wash I carry a 2L bottle. En route the wash ran out and as I was arriving at the mechanics... quite obviously I'd ask him to do it while he's topping up the rest. He agreed, then didn't do it.
I feel like I'm repeating myself, but it's a good reminder
At the risk of repeating myself: why can you not check and top up such simple items yourself? Afraid of getting your hands dirty? You had the w/wash in the car and could have topped it up yourself. I hope you use the link I gave you in order to use before your next MOT.
I'm sorry, but you come across as one of those car owners who has no clue regarding the simple tasks that every car owner should carry out. If you have a handbook in the glove box, I advise you to read it.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

And every one of those cars will have had an owner's handbook in the dash glove box. Or a simple Google search will find a copy to download.

The biggest pain in the neck with modern cars is how they have the washer fluid container and tubing in a place you can't get to easily. My wife's X5 had a leak in the tubing - it was split. The offside wing had to be removed to get to it. 50p part massive bill in a Dealer (we obviously didn't take it to a dealer...0

Periodically top up or pay attention to the amount that comes out when you use the washers, if it's a dribble, top up. You don't need to know if it's running low to keep sticking 1/2 a litre in every 6 months or 3 months or whatever driving style you haveSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Indeed they had. They would probably have advised that the level could not be checked. And every one of those cars will have had an owner's handbook in the dash glove box. Or a simple Google search will find a copy to download.

I bet you're really a friendly person in real life.
I said a number of times that I DO REGULARLY TOP UP MY OWN W/W. Read and be polite. Simple? :beer:0
