Yes, it has. And I'd be astonished if it didn't have an alarm, too. I can't remember quite when they became a legal requirement, but they've certainly been an almost universal fitment since the 90s.

Edit: Immobilisers and alarms a legal requirement on all new cars after October 1998.

It will. You might not have the right fob to arm or disarm it, but it will have an alarm.

There's no alarm I've ever been aware of.... I'll Google it. EDIT: Googled it, Thatcham 2 immobiliser, no alarm.

You never know what you don't know.

£2,500 sounds ridiculously expensive/unaffordable for the OP's problem! Crazy world!

Bearing in mind how many people these days seem to get so drunk so often .... I'm sure a lot must lose their keys while out .... how come I've only ever seen such a sum as £2,500 for the first time today? I thought they were about £70 (and still steep!)
I agree with you, if you don’t know you don’t know.

As for many losing keys, most would have a spare, and most people who go out to get drunk don’t carry their car keys( I hope)

I had a Citroen C2 key made for £120 after obtaining the immobiliser code from the dealer for £15. Didn't need the old key either. (did this before we lost the only key though :) ) OP could/should call some independents for advice and ignore the dealer.

My car key is attached to my house keys so goes everywhere with me.

I can see a situation when the dealer would be unable to add a new key without replacing the bcu, door locks and ignition barrel.

What if the previous owner lost their keys so replaced the bcu, door locks and ignition barrel with ones from a scrapped car. It happens in fact I have done it after a thief stole my wife's handbag with the car keys and address in. I could have deleted the key but they would still have been able to open the car, disengage the steering lock and roll it onto a trailer. I accepted the risk that if I ever lost a key the dealer would not be able to assist.

So is mine usually, but if I am going out drinking I leave the car key at home.

It takes a couple of seconds to remove ;)
