Old Style Daily Thursday 26th July 2018

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Morning everyone

I thought it was 3.00am and not 1.00am, sorry for the early start.

I’m still sleeping even worse than usual because of the heat and I am starting off in the bedroom and moving to the sitting room sofa in the early hours of the morning where it is cooler. At least this way I am managing to get some sleep.

Today I’m going to go shopping this morning, while it is still fairly cool. I also find that during the school holidays it is best to get in and out of the shops early.

Yesterday evening I gave the kitchen a good clean, not that it has had much use lately. Salads don’t make much mess. Talking of which, it will be salad for dinner again this evening with quiche and new potatoes, and some carrot cake for dessert.

I’ve just put a load in the washing machine and will peg that out before I head for the shops, and when it's light, now I've realised that is only 1.30am :o.

Gers I hope that your mum starts to pick up today and that you are taking care of yourself.

Nelski Ouch! to the bill for the car :(.

AOD it was good to read that your state pension is getting sorted out now.

TA glad that you enjoyed Mamma Mia 2 and your day out.

JackieO that’s a nice mix of expertise that you have got amongst you all in your quiz team, it sounds like you have fun and all really enjoy it.

Lainey sorry to hear about your DSIL, I hope that she starts to recover now.

RosyRed your meet up with your cousins sounds like a really nice thing to do as a way to keep in contact.

Elona I’m sure it won’t be too long to wait now, such exciting times ahead for you all.

RedRuby I’m another Waitrose user. I agree that the quality is very good they send me good money off vouchers as well. Their yellow sticker reductions are very generous as well.

Have a good day everyone.x

Morning! Thank you for starting the thread Hollyharvey.

I've been up for a couple of hours as it is so warm. Quite cloudy and muggy too, I think the cloud cover will go soon and we are meant to have another sunny day. I am just so glad that I don't have to go to work.

Yesterday I cleaned another bit of carpet and my DS has decided that I am a vile and selfish person because of disturbing him after he'd been up all night making biscuits which he's eaten and now he is not speaking to me. He was also displeased that i did not join in the family meal and made my own omelette and salad, well I've not eaten lamb chops for more years than he has been on the planet. I really am feeling a bit cross.

Rant over, not sure what I'm doing today, if I had my way it woukd involve sitting on the landing with a saucepan and a metal spoon but that would be petty.

Hope everyone has as good a day as possible.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

Morning hello.gif

At around 9pm last night, the lounge suddenly filled with smoke. It was pouring through the windows, I couldn't believe how fast the room filled up. Young neighbour two doors to the right had just cleared his garden and decided to burn the stuff he'd cut down, he didn't realise that he should let the cuttings dry before burning. I couldn't lock the chickens away, the shed was filled with smoke so I had to wait for it to clear, and the whole house stunk. It was annoying but he didn't do it on purpose. My next door neighbour on my left was slamming her windows shut – she was obviously trying to make a point but he wouldn't have heard her and we're in semis so our house is joined to hers, the only people she annoyed by doing this was us! Just before 10pm, the doorbell rang and she was stood there moaning loudly about the idiot up the road, my washing is out, people have their windows open..... mr tru just nodded and was willing her to go away, lol. Then she said “of course, I'd go round but you know, their dog....” then just looked at him. She wanted him to go round and complain, that wasn't going to happen because young neighbour is nice and was probably mortified about how much smoke there was, plus I'd had a nosy out of the window and there was no more stuff to burn so it wasn't going to last much longer. And I'd like to point out that his dog is lovely :D
Sometimes I want to rant about her on here but it'll be an essay so I don't. But I will one day and you'll probably ask why no-one has lost their temper and shot her yet, lol.

I have loads of tomatoes, they've grown really well and look perfect, except they're refusing to ripen. I think they've gone into a state of suspended animation, lol. The cherry tomatoes are OK and are tasty, but it's a bit difficult to slice them for a sandwich :D

Scampi and Milo had a great time, they spent most of their time wrestling, lol. They escorted me to the bathroom when I needed the loo, I had to force them out so I could shut the door and when I opened it again, they were sat waiting for me :D I don't know why they do that, Milo's human was downstairs, feeling abandoned. bellabella He does seem like two different dogs sometimes, lol. He lost his nerve with a couple of chihauhaus a couple of days ago, I had to quickly turn back into the front garden and distract him while they went past, then he met another dog and acted like he'd been friends with it for years! He has a select few favourites and Milo is the absolute best in his opinion :D

Thinking of you Gers xx

It's supposed to be hot hot hot here today, and very muggy. We'll go out for a walk early, I want Scampi back indoors by 9am. If the forecast is a bit wrong, I'll leave the doors open so he can go in and out til lunchtime, if it's right at least I'll know he's had some exercise. I don't plan on doing much today, I'll just be pottering about.

Good morning everyone :hello:
It's another sunny morning here and I've just seen Steve off to work. I have a fair bit on my mind so I didn't sleep too well plus I went to bed late as Lee needed support and a bit of hand holding. I would have a nap later on but I have quite a busy day so I don't know if I can fit one in.

AOD, I think I would have to test the smoke alarms...just saying :rotfl:
I had some sad news yesterday, I will not be getting any more support once my lovely cmht lady finishes next month. I guess this means it is even more important that I stick to my healthy eating plan so I can eventually go out on my own again. I am very grateful for the help I have had but it is a funding issue and there is just no more money in the pot for me.

The grandchildren are coming over to spend the afternoon with us so I am trying to think of some activities they would like to do that don't involve looking at a screen. I guess it's going to be baking again. At least I will get them to take their creations home with them so there is no temptation :D.

Spaggy Bol for tea which I will get going in a minute. I put loads of veg in there so I will spend a happy half hour chopping it all up. I am listening to Meatloaf's Bat out of Hell album and it is bringing back all sorts of teenage memories :o:o.

Gers, I really hope your mum is on the mend today, sending you loads of hugs xx

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Morning everyone

hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Cloudy start here this morning, but air feels much fresher but we are forecast possible rain/storms today - we'll see.

DH and DS1 up and gone to work stupid early, DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly as he wants to go for a run before it gets too hot. DS1's workplace have agreed to them starting work an hour earlier and therefore finishing an hour earlier due to the heat in their workplace, so he'll be home 3pm ish.

Dinner last night was breaded chicken portions (menfolk), jacket potatoes, beans/veg. I had fish, jacket potato and veg. Tonight I'm not sure but it will sort it out when I go out later.

Gas engineer visited last night and gas hob all sorted, plumber is coming at 8.30am this morning so hoping I'll have working kitchen sink, DW and WM at some point today. I have a washing mountain so hoping it doesn't take too long to get everything sorted as I need to get going with the washing - we're running out of clothes and washing them in the bath just doesn't wash them the same!

Once plumber is done I'll be heading into town, and calling in at L***l's on the way home to pick up something for dinner, milk and loaf of bread.

I have the usual "to do" list so will be working my way through that steadily.

Work wasn't too bad yesterday - but it's all not a happy place at the moment, there's rumours circulating and meetings going on - just fed up with now, the monkeys really are running the asylum. Staff are really unhappy, stressed and feeling very unsupported. This latest stuff going on is just adding fuel to the fire - as there's meetings with the new boss today and 2 more in August - but not everyone can go today so hoping there's no big announcements that should be made to the whole team at the same time - or maybe that's their plan as they know what they are announcing is not going to be popular and want to keep it being announced to a few people at a time so they don't get too much backlash.

Right, I need to crack on, shower is calling, so is brekkie.

Keep safe and well x

Morning all.

That huge moon wreaked havoc with my sleep last night for a while.

The district nurse arrived at 8am yesterday, took three phials of blood and was gone by 8.15am. She caught me unaware as I was told she'd arrive between 8.30 and 9am so I was still in jimjams, not that she'd care!

DM ate very little enough though I tried very hard. She dozed a lot, read a little and watched TV a bit. We spent a 'happy' half hour filling up her weekly pill box. I did a bit of shopping during which I sat in the cafe reading the paper over a coffee.

Today I've a parcel to collect from A mazon at a local supermarket, gets me out of the house for a short while.

Whilst it's very dull here the warmth is still hanging about, perhaps the sun will come out later.

Virtual hugs to those who could use one and I wish everyone a happy Thursday.

Dumpling, I'm sorry about your cmht lady. It seems wrong that although you still have a need there is no funding. I know you said a while ago that Steve was looking at stopping work to help you, is that still a possibility?

I'm just back from dropping DH at Luton airport on his way to Belfast until tomorrow night. I'm shattered but can't go back to bed because I have to take Ziggy for a quick run before she goes to the vets to be spayed. The heat will probably send me to sleep later.

DD is here but will be going home tonight once she has seen Ziggy home from the vet.

Hey all :)

Tru Love hearing the tails (??) of scampi ...what a little rascal :)
AOD :D sounds like you are in the doghouse

Early out again today to get the car sorted out and the less said about that the better. I will be making the most of the extortionate price by packing everything up later today and moving lock stock and barrel into the car so that I can at the very least benefit from 24hr air conditioning :D

So happy to see the sun back after our 2 day cloudy blip. Today is supposed to be even warmer so no real plans after the car bar enjoying the biggest room in the house. Do have some prep to do for a course on Monday but its one of my go tos so no real panic yet.

Had a burger and salad last night and half a melon for pud. Melon is a real treat for me as despite loving it I am actually allergic to it. Not badly allergic I must add I just get mahoosive swollen lips after eating :rotfl: some women pay thousands for this look I just need to eat melon.
Ploughmans tonight I think and more lip plumping for dessert.

Have a great day all

Good morning all

Thank you for starting us off Holly

Roll on Saturday morning, rain forecast. Maybe it's age but I can't remember 1976 being this hot / bad.

Again nothing planned, not going out, haven't been out for a few days, must be saving me a fortune :D

Hope you all have a good day
