My car is currently in for repair through my insurance (hastings) and my hire car has been provided by Auxillis.
My claim is also non fault, parked car pulled out straight in to side of me, and driver behind me got it all on dashcam so no way for third party to get out of accepting blame.

The process itself was easy, the car was waiting for me when I got to the garage to drop mine off.
My car is still being repaired though, 2 weeks later, but one of my friends says this is normal as auxillis get more money from the third party insurance the longer I have the car. (Which is fine by me as it's posher than my car)

Don't complain then about Insurance premiums as ultimately the cost of your inflated hire cost and extended repair time is passed onto the consumer

I've never complained about my insurance premiums. I'm quite happy with mine, and when I haven't been, I shop around and find one I am happy with.

There's also the risk that you get dragged into a court case, because the costs Auxillis are demanding from the 3rd party are excessive.

And you are asked why it took 2 weeks to repair your car, why you needed a posher car than the damaged one, why you didn't just pay for a hire car in the normal way, etc.

Although, as long as you cooperate with Auxillis in the court case, it will be them that potentially covers any losses rather than you.

Apparently it's taken 2 weeks as they've had to order more parts than they first thought they would, the car at fault scraped my whole passenger side so I'm guessing at least 2 new doors.
It's a like for like model, it's just newer and therefore has more gadgets on it. I didn't ask for it, I said I wasn't bothered what I got as long as I could still get to work and back.
And I shouldn't have to arrange my own hire car, as if some idiot had looked before he pulled out in the first place, my car wouldn't be damaged and I wouldn't need a hire car.

Next time you are involved in a claim where liability is clear cut like this then consider claiming directly off the third party insurer rather than getting involved in credit hire

Most insurers are happy to deal with innocent third parties, supply a replacement car and let you choose your repairer if you want to

Then no excess to pay, and no dealing with a credit hire company!

I agree that you shouldn't be put out.
However if you choose to use a company that are eye-wateringly expensive then you may have to take time off work to attend court which I would have thought was more hassle.
Court claims have to be done in your name and somewhere in the small print you will have agreed to this.
I think I'd rather go the least hassle approach.

After over 15 years of driving this is the first time I've ever been involved in an accident and had to claim off my insurance, so the whole process was new to me, so I admit I may have been naive in just letting them take care of everything for me.

However, i have found what was obviously a very distressing incident, ( it happened 2 hours before me and my partner were going on holiday) was made a lot easier because they handled everything for me.

The garage told me my repair would take 6-7 days, which obviously doesn't include weekends, and I dropped it off on a Friday so at the minute I'm only up to day 9 anyway.

If by some unfortunate occurrence I have to go through this again, I will follow the advice of you guys and girls on here and use the third party's insurance if I am not at fault. Just a pity I never looked at this forum until I had to use my insurance

Yes, quite understandable.
Hopefully for 2 weeks this shouldn't be an issue.

It's more of an issue when it's 10 weeks at £300 and you could have bought a car with the hire charges !!

I do agree that you shouldn't be put out and also that things can happen when you are least able to deal with them, but that's not necessarily the view of the law.
If there's a place down the road offering £30 and another company offering £300 then the other party may not necessarily think that's ok just because it's was easiest for you although I totally appreicate where you are coming from. Not everyone has the luxury (as in your case) to spend hours shopping around.

The problem is there are companies that captalise on that and push it to the limits.

Hi James,

We would like to clarify a few points regarding our service.

Our statement of truth document is not fully specific to each individual customer, therefore it covers all circumstances in which we provide our services.

Our comparable hire vehicles are based on a similar shape and engine size to your own, as set out in vehicle groups agreed across the motor insurance sector.

Lastly, the vast majority of our customer's claims are settled quickly as we have agreements in place with around 80% of motor insurers - where the hire charges are settled at pre-agreed rates. In the unlikely event that the third party insurers does not pay, all of our non-fault customers are provided with a free Credit Protection policy that indemnifies them from any costs, as long as they have been truthful and willing to assist in the recovery.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please email onlineteam@auxillis.com with your reference number or vehicle registration and we will arrange for you to be contacted directly.

Kind Regards,

Auxillis Online Team

and willing to assist in the recovery

This means be willing to have a court case in your name, appear in court, take time off work.

Could the Auxillis representative reply as to whether in this case loss of earnings and travel expenses would be covered?
