Ambulance given parking ticket

A line has to be drawn somewhere, should the people that make their radios, vehicles , uniform, suppliers of their grocery etc also be exempt from parking restrictions? It's no less ridiculous than what the backers are suggesting
Even for the motoring section that's one of of the most moronic posts I've seen on here.everyone has a life saving job in some capacity.
But then you went and beat it...0 -

So what is the point you are trying to make?
That nobody is to disagree with your viewpoint?
Bottom line is that people cannot park where they like whenever they like , a liveried vehicle is no exception.0 -

Well, I think a lot of the time any given peon wouldn't hold sway over whether you lived or died so I see your point there. But that doesn't make the point moot! Some people probably hold sway over whether you live or die at certain points of your life:
- Drivers. Are you one of these people who clap the airplane pilot when they touch down? It is a bit outdated these days, but even so there's one job where you could end up being saved by one or two individuals if, for example, the enginges blow out 50k feet above the earth. Same for coaches, trains, stewards/esses, rail guards etc etc. Are they going to drive safely? Are they going to save you when you have a heart attack or choke?
- Do you trust the people in water plants to effectively filter the water correctly? I suspect you haven't thought about it maybe? You certainly haven't let them park on double yellow lines without consequence though I bet
- Gas engineers. I mean, have you ever suffered from carbon monoxide poisoning? Or did the gas engineers install your kitchen fixtures correctly?
Even with the peons, you have to sort of think a bit more abstractly:
- Supermarket workers. What if the local store refused service to someone for no good reason? Most cases yes, you just go to another shop (though it would be bad if the other shops barred you too) but what about 90 year old Betty? I mean it would be a bit heartless like, but if you refused service to her then maybe she'll die pretty soon through not being able to eat?
- Hotel workers. "We have rooms, but we ain't putting you up", said the receptionist on a cold, wet night in Stoke. Similar to the Betty thing, maybe roughing it on the streets kills her?
You've got to think abstractly on some of them, but I see the point DUTR is making and I agree with them. Where is the line drawn? More so given the paramedic was OFF DUTY!0 -
Mercdriver wrote: »[bolded part] That's rather a twatish thing to say. How many paramedics do you know to know what their jobs actually entail? I'm betting none. I know several.
Also their not there. You keep forgetting that the yellow lines weren't put there by the council and have no basis in law. How many times do you have to be told this?
I would not describe going in a general store for a snack and some water a domestic shopping spree. It's not even a day or two's shopping, yet you seem determined to call it a shopping spree. Paramedics don't get set lunch times they have to take them as and when they can and are still expected to go on a call when it comes in. They cannot turn around to control and say "Sorry guv, still got ten minutes left" and then go to the bathroom after clocking back in.
I am accepting that some views differ from mine. If I didn't why would I be disagreeing with them? You need a lesson in debating the same as you need one in manners, respect and grammar.
I hope a taxi driver is able to help you in the future, and not the one that dragged an unconscious passenger, leaving him in the road to be run down.
Most paramedics are more capable than many doctors at giving life saving treatment quickly. How many taxi drivers do you know that can do that?
I hope you haven't given anyone advice in the parking section, because you are showing how inept you are here. The restrictions are civil relating to a shopping centre/park, not a publicly funded road. You do know that anything within that's parking related is contractual and not enforced by council parking restriction orders, don't you?
You might know several paramedics but its clear you haven't asked them about this.
Go on, ask them under what circumstances they can be forced to cut their break short. Based on your post here, their answers are going to surprise you.
Plus as I said, if every second counts then why go to such a big store in the first place and not a convenience store? Paramedics do a great job and in my friends own words....80% of their job is turning up and saying "you called an ambulance for THIS?" which is bound to be frustrating. That doesn't mean you don't get paramedics who take the mickey and play up their role to try and get preferential treatment if it suits them. You keep using that word. It's not a big store it's a Tesco Express and there are approximately 80 spaces in the car park and those are shared with other businesses as well.
No legitimate car parking space is further than 50 yards from the front door of the Tesco store, what's that less than 30 seconds walk?
Sounds like the ambulance driver at least was one those you describe in your final sentence.0 -

Imo a tesco express is not a convenience store. A convenience store is a corner shop, so called because rather than having to head there especially, you can just nip into one as you are passing. You keep using that word. Convenience Store magazine, the trade paper for convenience stores, describes them as such so I would say within the trade they are accepted as a convenience store.

Can't view it, apparently virgin mobile think the site contains adult content.
I was allowing for differing opinions though - which is why I said imo tesco express is not a convenience store. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0
