So there's news today (BBC News website) of an ambulance being given a ticket for parking on double yellow lines whilst the paramedic went into Tesco to buy a drink. She wasn't on a call.
I own a Luton for work, and it's a pain to park, but I wouldn't dream of parking it illegally because I wanted to buy a drink.
I get that paramedics work long shifts and do an incredibly important job, but can they park illegally when not on a call? Her attitude seemed a little self-important.

I'm sure someone having a heart attack would be more than happy to wait while a paramedic had to walk back to where they had been forced to park.0

If the ambulance crew are not given sufficient time to have a break and park up legally, then that is the problem.
They were purchasing food and drink, so they should not receive a call.
A more organised crew would have brought their own pack-up, if saving 2 minutes parking properly would cost someone their life.
This is a news media goldmine, with no substance.0 -

In the current heatwave I wouldn't begrudge them grabbing a quick drink whilst not on an official break.
Lugging heavy equipment around in hot temperatures isn't exactly good for the health.0 -
Wasn't this in a retail park, so therefore they weren't official yellow lines in any case. So they weren't breaking laws, but retail park rules.0

Correct. Apparently the individual that issued the ticket has had their employment terminated.0 -

If only there was such a thing as a convenience store where you could nip in quickly to grab a drink as you were passing and would save you from having to traverse the huge car park at a snails pace or from battling through the tide of people in the huge supermarket.
Either every second counts or it doesnt. I have no sympathy for people who pick and choose when it suits them. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0
