How are you "loading them all up"?
  • Using the LinkClump extension on Chrome, just highlight all the links (or as many links as you want to open) in the T&C's page of the prize and they all load up together.

I just a 10 question survey, on top of all the ruddy ads, on one. I did one small mag, hand picked just a few of the prizes I wanted and it took half an hour to do what used to take about 4 minutes. Sod that.

Regarding the slowdown after opening lots of tabs, a tip for any fellow Firefox users:

The browser add-on HoldTab (along with several similar add-ons but that's the one I'm currently using) will prevent tabs from loading fully until you click on them. That saves a fair bit of browser memory.

I've only done a brief search, as I don't use Chrome myself, but I can't find a similar add-on for Chrome, unfortunately.
  • @Skilos. That sounds good, I will give that a try later today and see how it goes, might have to go back to using Firefox again.

I will try and do a walk through of short cuts I use that block all but form in the next few days.

It only works on chrome, makes it super fast, I hadn't used it for a while as had a 6 month Bauer ban after win but will start up again in a fortnight.

Thanks toniq, looking forward to seeing that. Any tricks that can help to make these go faster like they used to will be very welcome.

I installed Firefox for the first time in ages and put on the HoldTab extension, it works.... to a point. The initial slow down as the tabs load is gone but Firefox is so slow to load and render each tab as you go that I don't think I am saving any time at all. I even enabled hardware acceleration in the options which helped slightly but not enough.

I had a look on Chrome and I found a couple of extensions which are supposed to be similar to HoldTab, the first ntlazytab didn't work at all and the second, Tab Suspender seemed to only work partially with a lot of tabs still running when they should have been suspended.

At the moment I really don't know what the answer is but I am sure some clever person will come up with a solution. Thanks for the suggestions so far, it was all worth a go.
  • I use mobile user agent browser extension through chrome and turn off adblock+ on the mag dailies it was recommended on here. Just need to click on the mobile user agent icon to switch and stop the videos playing. Still have to put up with the ads but i can whizz through them pretty quickly.
I usually have lots of tabs open at once but have got a decent spec computer although i have had it a few years now. I bought so it would be future proof for quite a while.

I found through Reddit a way of overriding the adblocker ban. It's not too technical but it involves running a script. Would my fellow compers consider that a form of cheating and could that even be against MSE posting rules? Comp rules often say entries using scripts will be invalid.

I've tried it out myself and it works but I deleted it again because I felt too naughty. :o
