As an entry level set of reading, I'd recommend John Edwards set of DIY Investing/Pensions - free on Amazon unlimited which usually has a free month trial. I found them a good start and then moved on to Tim Hale Smarter investing plus lots of free websites like Monevator. With a 5 year fix on your mortgage you might choose to lock up the money to pay it off (or a good part of it if you go for the 10% overpayment option) in a 3 yr fix to get better rates - if knowing exactly where you are with it is an appealing approach. Only you will know that, and only after a bit of reading.
Sorry for the loss that put you here - but it does give you an excellent basis for the future.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans
