I do hope you are all happy now that he has to have an operation on his vocal chords as what was first thought to be laryngitis is actually a nodule/growth and the operation could end his career for good.
Afaik, he has never had to cancel a tour before. He has had to cancel the rest of his dates throughout Europe now due to this problem. The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 10

why would anyone be happy?
All I've read on this thread is people saying they were disappointed in his decline. And frustrated that he had gone on stage at Newcastle when it was clear from the start, from his own admittance, that he was ill.0 -
Ive spent a fortune in the last few days on Meat Loaf as I won a backstage pass to meet him and his band after the Birmingham show, so I bought 2 tickets in the Batcave (£114.50 of which £100 wil be refunded) and train tickets from Manchester to Birmingham £32.00 and a Travelodge room £70.00, then Train tickets to the NEC from Birmingham which cost approx £6.00, got to the nec and was told the concert was cancelled at 6pm so spent a boozy night on Broad Street in Birmingham drowning my sorrows which also cost fortune.
Arrived home on Saturday to see the show had been re-scheduled for 29/11 so booked another non refundable Travelodge room for £39 and non refundable train tickets for £32 again and alos had to sell my Crowded House tickets for the MEN on 29/11 for £30 less than I paid as the dates clashed, Now 3 days later I read the whole tour is Cancelled, so its cost me over £223 Ive seen nothing and Ive lost my Crowded House tickets and feel totally depressed as I had backstage passes, I also had front row tickets for the Manchester Meatloaf gig too.
I just wish if they had not re-scheduled the Birmingham show so quickly as that cost me another £110 which I feel was avoidable,
Anyway I Hope he gets well soon but guess my chance of ever meeting him has gone now!0 -
i can totally understand the disappointment
i had tickets to see nirvana for the tour just before he shot himself. the uk section was postponed as he was in some drug incident in germany and went home to recover (so we were led to believe). a little while later he shot himself. i was devastated! the only performers on my list I never got to see. i have seen everyone else on my list apart from the Kaisers and I have only 26 days to wait for their gig!!!!!:j Coupon Queen:jSaved £3880 since Feb 05 stopping nicotine!!!Spent £3880 on shoes & bags since Feb 05!!!!0 -
Freetime, even though i don;t like Nirvana, I can understand your devastation. I am a lot into classic rock, it always makes me sad that i was born in the completely wrong decade and most of my favourite artists are either dead or officially disbanded.
Hapless, I am not necessarily happy that his career might end for good. As I said previously, you have to admit when it is time to retire in this industry. I would have wished for him to be able to carry on but hey. The fact that it is a nodule and not laryngitis goes to prove that his mgmt are a bunch of pushy money-grabbing a-holes. He might be better off after the operation than what he was in the past few months, but I doubt he will ever recover fully.
I am sorry about your misfortune Mark. And this is the reason why I do not go to as many gigs as I would like to: when you add up the costs of transport, hotel and tickets, it nearly comes out the same price as a holiday. I just cannot afford this kind of money. On top of it, most of my favourite artists are either dead or disbanded. I was very lucky The Who (or half of them) came to my home town."Don't cry, Don't Raise your Eye

If you believe this no doubt santa clause will call on Christmas Eve.
Why has it taken so long to come up with this reason?
Maybe because it is a reason that satisfies the insurance company who will have to pay out to the promoter/venues etc that he hasn't broken his contract due to self inflicted drink and drugs?
It wasn't a cyst that said at Newcastle:

I have been to see them in Southampton during the have a nice day tour, we could not hear him for the first half hour (might have been sound problems in all fairness) and his voice got so bad, he had to let Richie take over for a couple of songs. He also let the audience sing most of Living on a Prayer.
I was at that same concert and they were brilliant. We didn't have problems hearing them. Going again next year.0 -
Put it this way Spice Girls are due to do a tour, the tickets are a sell out, they cost a fortune, none of them are ill as yet (at least physically). But I would rather pay to watch Meatloaf barf on stage, then watch a bunch of has beens minus talent, lip sync there way through a gig for an hour.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

If I got my money back for all the crap shows i've been too.....well.... lets just say I could probably afford tickets to see Meatloaf.0

I really hope Meatloaf recovers well enough to perform at least one more really good gig. It would be such a shame for his career to end like this.
Many singers have suffered throat nodules, and probably the most important part of a good recovery is to rest their voice for as long is it takes to heal properly. With Meatloaf though, it does appear that there are other issues too.
I'm lucky that I've never bought tickets for a cancelled gig or been to one where the artiste(s) couldn't perform adequately, but I went to a very disappointing Drifters concert in my home town a few years ago. The sound technicians seemed completely unable to cope with a town hall as opposed to a proper auditorium. The result was akin to hearing your neighbours' hi-fi when it's turned up too loud: though the volume was more than adequate, the sound came across all muffled and distorted.
As for Amy WInehouse, she's one of the best live performers around when she's sober and on form. Sadly, that doesn't often happen.0
